Forums - General - Netflix questions

Is it worth it? Is paying for it online the only way to pay for it? I'm not using my debit card online,I'm real parnoid about that. Does it have new releases? How good is the select? Does it have a decent selection of T.V. shows? I'm really on the fence of whether to get this, but I don't know if it's good for a movie buff like myself.

I just typed a huge reply on my phone and it disappeared.  Now I'm just gonna say "go to Netflix.com".

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

I can't answer the payment questions but I can answer the other questions.
It has new releases, some might take a while but it seems like it is moving a lot faster, it already has Undercover Boss season 1 which I am curretly watching. The movies usually come out when they are released on DVD.

The show selection is great, I watched all of Lost on streaming except for the last season. I watched the last 2 seasons of Heroes on streaming. Netflix has The Office, Bones, Dexter, Psych, several National Geopgraphic documentaries, 30 Rock, SNL, Lie to Me, and tons of others all available for instant streaming.

Netflix is definitely worth it though if you prefer streaming more, there are only about 10 movies out of the Netflix top 10 that are streamable.

You know how to sweettalk me.  Okay, let's try this again.

I'm pretty sure they only accept credit and debit cards.  I've been with them for a couple of years and never had the slightest problem with billing.  I even quit and came back and there wasn't even a hiccup.  No hassle from them.  No surprise charges.

The selection is pretty good but what's there today may not be there tomorrow.  They tell you when an instant movie is going to be pulled from the lineup, though.  Lot's of fairly new movies and tons and tons of older movies are there to choose from.  There's an impressive selection of TV shows there, too.  Shows like Futuram, the offi@e, old stuff like quantum leap, I could go on and on.  Complete seasons, too!  I think you should take the plunge.  I tried it on all three consoles (personally prefer PS3) and all function flawlessly.

I forgot to add that if something you ant to see isn't available for instant streaming, it will be mailed to your house in about one or two days.  Combine the physical discs with streaming and you'll cover all of your entertainment needs.  I even lost an envelope and had to mail it with one of my envelopes and there was no problems/charges at all.

Well, try it out.  They give you two weeks free - and you aren't stuck watching on your computer.  Use your Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, many Blu-rays, some TV's or a Roku (and others) and you can watch on your TV.

I think it's a great service - No Commercials or DVD/Blu-ray mystery meat navigation!  And the No Commercials is especially nice during the elections.  They have many, many flms/tv shows to select from - some come and go, but if you can't find anything at any given moment that you want to watch I would be stunned - and I would sing the "Theme to Gilligan’s Island" to the melody of "Amazing Grace" to entertain you.

Most shows look great, and many are available in HD and look even better.  The best are just a bit less quality than the finest Blu-ray. (right now.)

I find I rarely watch regular TV - just a few shows that I really want to watch.

Your stressing to much, just try it!

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

^Oh yeah, Netflix has super fast shipping. if you have a disc and you mail it on Monday, you will get the next DVD in your que on Wednesday.

I watch a lot of movies as well and have been purchasing most of my movies for the past ten years (I've got a pretty big collection).  A couple months back when I reorganized my game room for my Kinect purchase, I realized that a decent portion of my collection I had no intention of ever watching again. I was just wasting money and shelf space on a bunch of one watch movies.  So I decided to give Netflix a shot.

So far, I am fairly satisfied with my decision.  The best part is the back catalog of TV shows.  My wife and I have been wanting to watch True Blood for a while but didn't want to start in the middle.  By being able to get the first two seasons on Blu-Ray from Nextlix saved me $100 alone.  I personally don't watch TV epsisodes more than once (Outside of Family Guy), so the TV episodes are a great selling point for me.

The streaming movie selection is ok.  There is a decent amount of classic movies and a fair amount of recent movies...but most of the recent stuff I already own so it doesn't do much for me.  The best part of the streaming movies is a lot of the lower budget and limited release movies you might of missed are available to stream...so you didn't waste any money purchasing a lousy movie.  It's also nice for kids as my daughter can watch Care Bears and other cartoons as well.  If your into Anime, there is a decent selection to stream as well.  In the end, it's nice if you're bored and need something to watch, but as it stands right now, I wouldn't sign up for the Streaming Only service.

The disc based service works really well.  Most new releases trail by about a month from their retail release.  Once you take yourself out of the purchasing loop for a month, you'll have plenty of new movies to watch.  Delivery is prompt on movies.  I put one in the mail on Monday, I'll have a new movie on Wednesday.  It's pretty awesome.

I still find myself purchasing the bigger release movies that I want to add to my collection.  But in the end, subscribing to Netflix is well the worth the money and I plan on keeping it for the foreseeable future.

Also, just try the trial and don't worry about using your card online.  All credit cards are protected by the issuing company and the most you can get stuck for is $50 if you ever get fraudulent charges on your card.  Just be smart with who you purchase things from and keep your computer security up to date and you should never have a problem.
