Forums - Microsoft - Kinect is the new Tickle Me Elmo

You just proved me right. I said that I will form a rock solid position for myself that can't get picked apart with one or two sentences and judging by the length of your post, I did just that.

Kinect rules, Wii drools, and people are flocking to Kinect just like they are the iPad, because both of those things are revolutionary and awesome.  One line.  Well, two now.  D'oh, now it's three!

It's because casual sex is easy. It takes real work to find a lady who will tie you up and tickle you with a feather.

Psh, maybe where you're from, buddy.

xD. I'm probably perceived as a Kinect hater on here, but I disagree with 5 quarters of that, :P.

Where you're from they call that unlawful sexual Kinection, mister. At least around here we are free from being controlled.

Unfortunately your whole argument falls apart as Kinect is a lot more capable than Tickle me Elmo and so can evolve. It will be the constantly evolving nature and the fun that Kinect generates that will mean that regardless of the number of words you put together on a page or however much you want Kinect to fail this will not come to pass.

I have kept my response to two sentences in order to demonstrate how futile your task was.

People are inclined to have their opinions. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean that others are genuinely putting the technology down over spite/hate. It isn't futile. It is a exceptionally well thought out arguement.

This is not about putting it down and it was not a good argument as it was flawed. The Tickle me Elmo was a one trick pony Kinect is not. The whole basis of the argument was that after Christmas people would become bored with Kinect. With the Tickle me Elmo that may well of been the case as it had nothing more to give whereas Kinect much like the last technology fad the Wii will continue to give which is why it will not be a Tickle me Elmo.

Do you get it now?

Can anyone really call the current Kinect lineup anything but one big disappointment? Some of those "games" don't even qualify as games like Your Shape. Kinect Joyride was supposed to be a free game on Xbox Live, now it's in retail stores for what, $50? Talk about overpriced.

That sentence got me banned about 2 years ago when I said it about Wii Fit.

Oh hypocrisy, you are so prevailent.

OT: I don't like reading, so I didn't. Mostly. But if your point is that Kinect will stop selling so well in 2011, I'm more inclined to say "probably true". Still, I can't say one way or the other-- since this is a joke thread, and I can't tell you whether or not a peripheral can stay as off-the-shelves as a console can.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Joke thread or not. I agree with it. This casual gaming era is destroying the market with trash games with no future. Kinect like stated is nothing mroe than a glorified over-priced eye toy. I don't believe the Wii is causing the destruction of the gaming world though. I believe that is more of the developers/publishers fault due to wanting to make quick and easy (also shitty) games.

I have seen Wii, Kinect, and even Move in action. I'm not going to lie at the current time i'm not a big fan of any of them due to them mainly catering an audience that is completely 180 degress opposite of me on the gaming spectrum line. Though out of ANY of them I see Move having the biggest potential due to the diverse line-up Sony will provide as well as the accuracy and precision of the product.

Wii is great for certain games don't get me wrong. Kinect is a cool "tech." Though the current line-up sucks a horses ass. The lag combined with the boring routines of already released re-hashed games (excluding dance central) isn't cutting it. Now the product is still in its infancy and people once stated the PS3 had shit software so maybe in time it will get better. I just don't see myself buying one unless there is an AMAZING killer app. I don't find doing repeated actions over and over fun, and I don't find getting my picture taken *cute*.

These casuals are eventually going to get over the fact that motion controls exist. Then they will leave or stop playing. As shown by the frequent buying Wii and shelfing it statement.

The difference is the Wii has, and will keep selling both hardware and software. Kinect on the other hand is only selling hardware, not so much software. And soon the hardware sales will follow the poor software sales if Kinect doesn't get some killer aps.

Mmm and I thought Kinect Sports was already selling at the same pace as GT5 which I am pretty sure is selling well. I wonder how many games Wii sold in its first few months? You could say Kinect Sports is already doing the job of the Killer app even if you do not like it the sales would suggest otherwise.

Must we revisit the same tired old arguments that where thrown at the Wii and just re-badge and redirect at the Kinect.

That's because Kinect isn't a console, it's an add on made to appeal to casual players. The Wii sacraficed things the hardcore valued such as HD/good graphics, buttons, and accurate controls. If 360 owners don't want casual gaming they can continue playing the stuff they've loved for the past 5 years, and with 360 looking to have it's best lineup ever next year, Kinect support shouldn't bother anyone if the good games are still rolling in.

What accuracy are you referring to?  Playing Metroid Prime with the Wii Remote was mighty impressive and accurate.  I bought COD WAW 2 (or whatever the one that came out last year is called) on 360 and was the biggest waste of money in the world.  Press a button and target just goes directly on your enemy.  I don't have to do anything but press a button which my 1 yr old son can do.  If what you mean by accuracy is the game does everything for me then I would rather not have that accuracy.

I don't like Call of Duty, and I like Metroid Prime so that isn't what I meant. Pointer based Wii controls are cool, motion based Wii controls usually aren't. Twilight Princess was much better on the GC to me, doing a random waggle gesture just to get Link to attack (with an input delay mind you) in a way that doesn't mimic my own movements, it felt very tacked on and I found hitting a button to be faster and far more accurate. Twilight Princess isn't the only game with annoying waggle gestures, more recently DKCR had this issue using the motion controls to roll for some odd reason. It turned what would have been an amazing title into merely a great title for me. I do think Motion solves this problem but not many games are using it. I wish they would.
