So Kinect is a home platform now? 8th console generation start confirmed then?

Wii Fit sold very close to it and it wasn't released by X-mas or heavily bundled with the Wii on its first 6 weeks. I think Wii Fit wins. Sorry to burst your bubble, but if Kinect is a home platform, so is Wii Fit.

Microsoft themselves said Kinect is a new platform, they compared it to a hardware launch.  Studios and franchises were created specifically for the new hardware.  There were 17 titles at launch that were specifically made for Kinect.  Microsoft has also said Kinect is central to their strategy with the Xbox moving forward.

Did Nintendo make any of those claims about the Wii Fit balance board?  Seems to me it was a game/workout program that came with a peripheral, like Rock Band or Tony Hawk Ride.  Nintendo didn't consider the release of Wii Fit as a relaunch of their console.

All right, I'll finish this argument here and now.

For all those arguing whether kinect is a platform or an add on, you are both wrong

Kinect is actually an add-on-platform

There, problem solved, now everybody can go on their way

And trying to compare the wm add on or wii balance board to what kinect is about doesnt wash for me.

Kinect, Move, WM , Wii Balance Board, PS Eye...all fall into the same category whether we like that or not.

This not a matter of debate or semantics, it's fact.   You may not like it and feel Kinect deserves special recognition but it doesn't given the classification of the type of hardware product that Kinect is.

So bust out the site rules that say you have to compare only certain material to others.  YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT, if he wants to he can and will . So read the info and don't complain like every other poster on this thread. We don't need comments from peanut gallery. How about 5 comments about one thing not 500.

What have you contributed?

Do you see anything in my post stating he can't compare them?  No.  You see me elaborating on the classification issue that was being debated.

As for being peanut gallery, I'm in the industry and believe I've earned my right to speak my opinions...just as much as anyone else has.  Nor do you see anything in my post complaining about anything.  I'm stating facts.  Facts aren't complaints.

What have I contributed?  Try page 1 where I make the first real contribution to the thread notating the DS had a better launch as was querried by the thread starter.

So before you get banned again, read the posts better, make your debate points better and pick your fights better.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I love the Kinect platform! Bought it with Kinect Sports and Dance Central.  Recently picked up Ubisoft Your Fitness.  If there were any other good games then I would pick it up... maybe Zumba at Christmas when it comes out.  I am surprised by the critique of the OP on whether it can be comparable to the console or not.  The fact that it is not a console and requires a console - yet still pull in the amazing software numbers for Kinect Sports and Dance Central is even more impressive!  As for someone mentioning that no software made it into the top 10 NPD.  Didn't the NPD say that if they didn't change the format to multi-platform, the Kinect titles would have been pretty darn close?

Yep, Kinect sales are pretty great. I can see a sort of slow burn going on for a lot of the major release titles given it takes time for word of mouth to spread and the userbase to rise.

Personally I don't care whether it gets labeled as a platform or a peripheral it doesn't really matter. They took a difficult technology, made it work, made games for it and made it sell. I don't think theres any reason to diminish it as an accomplishment.

P.S. Kinect adventures is fun, off I go to play it. I never personally thought I would buy Kinect until I found out my girlfriend who is staggeringly bad with the Wiimote could actually use it, funny that.

Tease.

So, really, the meltdown result of this thread isn't even about the subject title of the thread???  I mean ... REALLY???!!!

Fact:  Kinect is a runaway success at this point with no notable signs of slowing down.

"But there isn't any software coming to sustain it!!!"  I remember reading (can't find the story, though; can anyone help?) that there were Kinect games that were removed from the launch lineup due to it being too crowded, so is it reasonable to think these games could litter the 1st half of 2011?

Seriously, it's Friday night.  You folks are WAAAAAAAYYYYY too wound up here.

it should not be compared because

its not a new console so it already has support from 360 as a brand

it has the biggest marketing campaign ever atleast in gaming hardware launches

it is $150 when other consoles are launched at a much higher price

Kinect is Straight Ballin'

Tack on another approx 800K units this week again, well on the way to 5 million by year's end.  I'm not sure ANYBODY can say this isn't absolutely incredible...oh well, de-nile or denial....oh nvm.

"...You can't kill ideas with a sword, and you can't sink belief structures with a broadside. You defeat them by making them change..."

- From By Schism Rent Asunder

Can somebody please compile all the posts that actually state the sales are not a success?  I'd like to see this lengthy list of people in "de-nile or denial".  I'm having a hard time actually finding any.  It's like the Kinect apologists are reaching to find ego building debate points that don't even exist.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Kinect has an impressive launch, no doubt about that.

But the question is if it will sustain it.

Why is only the top 5 software for the systems compared. Wouldn't top 20 give a better picture of the situation as a whole?

I LOVE ICELAND!
