I always wanted to play Blinx.  Why's there no Blinx 360? :/

And I till can't believe Microsoft hasn't had RARE pumping out any straight up platformers on 360 (especially considering Mario's comeback and the Wii platform renaissance). I mean wtf, Kameo was it so far, and that's barely a platformer?!?

Nobody likes Rare anymore ever since Banjo & Kazooie blew up a giant Mario statue in a Nuts & Bolts trailer.

You see, Rare sucks so hard these days that you totally forgot about that B&K game, so it wouldn't be wise to let them try again.

I must've blocked out that shitty B&K racer/sandbox thingy.  I don't even really care for Rare platformers, I'm just shocked Microsoft's been so continually slow to adapt to Nintendo's trendsetting.

The thing is that most of the talented people that worked for Rare quit after Bill Gates bought them up.  Rare exists in name only.  The latest Perfect Dark game is proof of that.

On the topic of Rare ...

Back in the day (SNES and first half of the N64) Rare was an amazing developer that was full of highly talented creative individuals who could deliver a quality product on a reasonable timeline. Their success actually caused a lot of their problems though because these highly talented creative people were leaving to start their own companies (publishers were throwing money at senior Rare developers for start ups) or being attracted away from Rare by other studios. As this was happening Rare games were being constantly delayed and (it is rumoured) Nintendo became more and more involved with the inner workings of Rare to ensure quality was still maintained.

By the time the Stamper Bros. offered to sell their share of Rare to Nintendo, Rare was a shell of the company they used to be and was not worth what the Stamper Bros. were asking. Microsoft (to build credibility as a first party developer) bought Rare for top dollar from the Stamper Bros. and Nintendo, and Nintendo used that money to buy other studios (Retro) and to finance many Gamecube games.

After the sale of Rare, the management and culture changes within the company drove the remaining talent away from the company and all Microsoft was left with was a series of half-finished projects and IPs it didn't know what to do with.

In my opinion, the reason we don't see Rare going head to head with Nintendo in the platformer market is because Rare no longer has anyone in it that has experience producing quality platformer games; and it would take Microsoft years to build a team that was able to deliver a Banjo Kazooie game that was on par with a game like Super Mario Galaxy.

I think the news about the PS3 port might kill some of the sales after Christmas.  This game may struggle to get much over 2M.

Actually that news was just a prank.. Día de los Inocentes is like april fools day on the 28th of december..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Well, it took Nintendo more than 10 years to deliver a game like Super Mario Galaxy who is in my opinion above SM64 and SMS. It's certainly not an empty company like the current Rare who will equal a game like that.

Like you said, Rare died a long time ago , most of their staff left, and even the founders. It's not Rare anymore. It's just the name of the company. It's empty.

Not only Microsoft and Sony can't compete with Nintendo in quality for platformers, but all their tries would be unsuccessfull sales wise because the place is already taken in the consumers mind. I mean the Wii has took the crown as the  undisputed king of platformer and the public is there. That's like the 360 who is the king of FPS. You can check the sales of multi platforms titles and platformer always sell better on Wii.

Sony had once a successfull platformer licence, Crash Bandicoot who was selling well, but never better than Mario. They let it die go on other consoles and the serie has been damaged beyond any hope.

Now it would be like all the clone/inspired of Mario Kart. Look at Modnation Racer, Blur, Split Second, Sonic racing, all released this year. They probably sold way less combined than Mario Kart did this year, and it was released more than 2 years ago! And still, Sega racing sold better on Wii than on the other consoles.

If Epic Mickey was to be released on PS3, and apparently this is not the case , we would find the same thing in my opinion. Sales would be higher on Wii.

Here's hoping that sales keep going... Epic Mickey deserves it. Been playing it a bit and it's pretty damned good.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit FTW.
