Forums - Sales - Wii explosion begins this weekend!

I think it was a smart move to delay SSBB for next year, could you imagine what's going to happen? They are going to sell every single Wii they put on stock. They will finish this year meeting their expectations for the fiscal year, and will see debuting maybe his biggest game for the year on february with virtually no competition...

Livin' in sin is the new thing.

Sweet. Maybe Wii will sell 1m this week? The demand is there.

And suddenly more Wiis were available, it's a Christmas (read marketing) miracle!!!

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

It's just a two-day event and won't affect total sales at all. It's unlikely that US Wii sales for December will be 2 million. In the first week of December they sold 240k, and by that time 4 million of the max 5.4 million quarterly production were already gone. Nintendo would basically have to supply 0 to Japan and Other for the remaining 3 weeks to hit 2 million in the US.

Given that Reggie mentioned US Thanksgiving as the one reason why the US got half of Wii shipments in November I think the US could receive a little less in December to equally accomodate Christmas in Europe and the New Year in Japan. Overall I could see US Wii sales for December (12/03 to 12/30) at 0.9 to 1.3 million.

Edit: The effect of these sales may also be quite difficult for ioi do estimate, right? Or does he have sources at the big retailers? Maybe Nintendo will put out a press info after the weekend, though I doubt they will so as not to piss off people who still won't have a Wii after that weekend.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

I have a feeling TONS of people are going to be getting vouchers from Gamestop.

Hehe, thse vouchers are kind of weird. I would never do that. Paying $249 one month in advance? GameStop can make a buck on interest alone.

Which prediction?

To Each Man, Responsibility

I'm not expecting anything crazy. My Best Buy has 50 Wii's right now. That's only 1/3 of what we had not to long ago.

Well, as far as I know we're still doing the voucher program for Circuit's Wii-launch tomorrow. For those of you that want to know, we received the same amount we received for the actual launch of the Wii. That's roughly twice every shipment since it's initial launch. You can probably expect numbers similar to the Wii's first sales week.
