People really get upset by Mario Kart Wii beating GT5...

Were anyone honestly expecting any different?

I don't think people are upset that MK is beating GT5 in NA. Actually, I don't think it matters at all to most. The rage comes from the comparison itself as it seems like nothing but downplaying GT5. It may not have been intended this way but it sure seems like it. They are both racers but that's where the similarity ends, they're like Contra and Half-Life and the comparison is rather senseless and appears nothing but a clever tool to rile people up. It just makes the posters seem childish and full of glee that somebody else's console exclusive is selling less than their own. I will never understand how people take pleasure in seeing others upset or angry, even on anonymous internet forums.

Personally, I'm not surprised, my Mario Kart Wii prediction seems to be my best so far.

Very good week all around, excellent for Wii, but Kinect kicked Wii Fit Plus and Balance Board out of the top ten during Xmas weeks, despite the attractive BB bundle. As I predicted, Kinect didn't hit the whole Wii, but just Balance Board. Oh, I just noticed GT5 grew in America from the week before.

The Wii Fit plus bundle is Europe only last time I checked

Right. And I just checked, here it works. Then Ninty should extend it WW, as it's effective to counter Kinect's pressure. Nevertheless it's a fact that Ninty never had to bundle BB, before Kinect (but also that it looks like it always has a move available to boost again Wii sales, when needed, and that a Wii2 won't be neede before Autumn 2012, if not even later). Anyhow, whether Kinect will keep on being competitive with BB after the initial enthusiasm is anybody's guess, it will need more quality games, that's for sure.

why do the wii haters not realize that nintendo is actaully a respected company with parents but sony and microsoft aren't...as much they are seen as borderline games for their teenagers. Nintendo just dish out playability without the gore (what a refreshing idea!) It's not just the gameplay that both Microsoft and Sony can buy it's the trust in the Nintendo name. Big LOL at Microsoft with their so called world class kinect system being outsold 2-1 in theirown backyard during their biggest selling season. Just wait until N change the price to $99 then you wil lsee some s**t fly.

I hope 360 atleast sells 700k next week in Americas

I'm loving these sales

Woah.  Killzone 2 broke the top 100.  Nice.

I bet vgchartz is overtracking the wii, sorry but after november NPD I don't buy those 360 x 2 sales.

Yeah but we're just talking about a single week here, not the whole month of december (I'm referring to all of your recent posts now).

Look this week the Wii got a gift card which accelerated its boost (it is 45% up from last week, while PS3 is up just slightly and the 360 is down).

The Xbox360 didn't get a boost this week because people are waiting for next week's giftcard and it was supply constraint to a certain extend.

Now instead of looking at this week and claiming "the Wii is overtracked! It won't outsell the Xbox360 2:1" (nobody said it would! And VGChartz data doesn't even indicate this so it's a claim without any basis) you should take a look at next week.

Next week the Wii boost will be smaller (because people rushed to buy it with the giftcard this week) while those customers who waited for the Xbox360 to get its giftcard will rush to the store next week. That means the Xbxo360 will get a way bigger boost than the Wii next week.

Basically if we assume the 360 will get the same boost the Wii did ( 50%) that puts its next week numbers at 600k units. If the Wii is flat (it gets deals next week, too but I have no idea how to factor them in) that would put the consoles at less than 900k units again. And I'd expect the 360 boost to be slightly higher since the giftcard is 75$.

Maybe they'll even be tied next (like 800k for both, I don't know). But since the Wii didn't outsell the 360 2:1 besides this week so far and since it won't outsell the 360 2:1 next week accusing VGChartz of overtracking the Wii because "it won't outsell the 360 2:1 in December" is stupid because VGChartz doesn't show the wii outselling the 360 by 2:1 for the whole month of December at all.

Is that fair enough to you?

Perhaps you are right, but frankly I don't see anything that can justify wii doubling 360 sales, even for a week. The only way this could happen is if the 360 is seriously undershipped and I don't think it is. Anyway we will never know the truth because NPD doesn't release weekly information, so we'll have to stick to monthly comparison.

Of course there is a justification - the Wii had an additional positive effect on its sales (giftcard) while the Xbox360 had two negative ones (wait for giftcard and supply issues).

It should have been clear to most people that the Wii would see huge Christmas sales:

1) Nintendo platforms see higher christmas increases because they are often bought as christmas presents

2) The Wii wasn't down during the year because consumer interest had wayned but because it didn't get any games. There was just one million seller before October or so and that was Mario Galaxy 2, the third Mario game on the Wii obviously didn't push any hardware.

3) The Xbox360 got a redesign some months ago. Obviously that pushed its sales up additionally.

4) The Wii has a very great christmas line-up this year (and games from last year that are still selling great) and Nintendo put out lots of bundles for the first time.

Take all those effects into account and it is completely logical the Wii boost during Christmas would be astronomical. But most of the time people just compare numbers. They see a console selling bad for like 3 months and assume it is "doomed". That's also why Xbox360 and Playstation 3 constantly change places in "who's gonna be 2nd" discussion. Two months of great sales for console "X" and people assume it'll stay that way forever :-p

a. In America, not WW (would probably be very close with Japan)

b. Yeah, didn't MKW more than doubled the sales of most GT games by now? pepole should realize that MK applies to a much bigger crowd, both by brand and by gameplay, so of course it will sell much more.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Endangered Species of the Week:

13
The Sly Collection (PS3)
Sony Computer Entertainment
5 9,612 53,517

Why is this game not selling well in the Americas or in EMEAA? This is a great value with three great games people. Get to the purchasing already. >:(

Great games selling great numbers is what I like seeing! Sly should be selling better than this... like a LOT better, I mean it's three of PS2s best platformers put together in a package, much longer than the other collection packages and puts a lot of games this gen to shame... I hope this doesn't hurt Sly 4...

Also this weeks console sales are just... wow

I think Sly just got buried under all the other titles.  Shame, the three games are very good and they look lovely in HD.  At the price, it's well worth the purchase on PS3.  Three full games for less than the price of one full price game.

Lack of awareness/advertising I feel was an issue here.  I think Sony pitched to existing owners via some trailers, etc. rather than actually advertise it for new owners.  Given the suitability of the title for the season and their lack - with LBP2 delayed - of a fun, more family title I think they missed an opportunity there to give the franchise a boost with new owners.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
