Square Enix Delays Deus Ex, Slashes Yearly Net Profit Forecast By 90 Percent
Japanese video game publisher Square Enix has delayed the launch of the latest installment in the Deus Ex series to the next financial year while slashing its full-year net profit forecast by more than 90 percent.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was originally slated for release in the January to March 2011 quarter, but now joins another key title in the company's line-up, Final Fantasy XIV, in being pushed back to the next financial year.

Square-Enix attributed the delays to the poor critical performance of its major titles released earlier this year.

"We came to realise that our management priority is to improve the development of our digital-entertainment products," the company said in a statement.

Additionally, the company cut its net profit forecast to 1 billion yen ($11.9 million) for the year ending March 31 from 12 billion ($142.8 million) yen previously forecast.

Square-Enix will be holding a news conference in Tokyo later today, with company president Yoichi Wada in attendance.

I'm glad most of their money is from DQ IX: easy to develop, cheap and still beautiful. I want more big IPs on portables next gen...and yes, I'm obviously speaking of the 3DS!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I'm guessing one of their biggest money pit is FFXIV.... and I don't think they can save it...

Seriously SE how the fuck could you let Sakaguchi go? You should be kissing his ass up and down the wall right now.

Well, Wada's "decrease dev cycles" strategy seems to have been shortlived.

I think it is time they stopped working on thirty thousand games at once and concentrate on a select few. The quality will be better and the time to produce them could be a little faster if they have more than 2 people work on a game.

FFXIV started dev in 2005? It releaed towards 2010 and is well....shit in it's state (It's getting better but the damage has been done)

FF VS 13 started dev in what 2003? It's almost 2011 and it isn't even out yet! They can't commit to 2011 either....seriously? Who seen that coming?

Still impressive their posting profits, after FFXIV bombed so very, very hard. The delay of Deus Ex can't help either. Looking at their release list they only released 3 console games this fiscal year.. Kane and Lynch 2, Nier and Front Mission Evolved... hardly inspiring lol.

I've no idea where they made their money this year tbh, guess the legs of FFXIII will have helped, and a few hits on the DS / PSP.

It always surprises me that the Japanese publishers can stay in the black, even when they have a relatively poor year, whereas EA can have multiple massive hits and post huges losses :/.

Final Fantasy XI is most likely paying for the bleeding XIV. SE can make a good 100M a year off of XI.

It's finally catching up to the quality of their product, which has fallen by something like 9000%.
