Exactly.  A Nintendo fan___'s excuse is almost always "it wasn't good anyway."  Sub-par (hardcore) games sell better on the Xbox360 and PS3 because their fans don't have such elitist attitudes.  Haze sold twice what The Conduit did, despite being reviewed roughly half as well on a system with little more than half the sales of the Wii.  In a way, Haze "performed" four times better than The Conduit--but then, there's actually a market for FPS titles on the PS3.

People wouldn't call the game crap if they thought it was good (for various reasons, it isn't worth it). Instead, they'd just come up with a different excuse, or more likely, wouldn't post at all. It's mainly those who dislike the game that end up posting, so you end up with a distorted view on what Nintendo fans think. (MadWorld is the worst game I've bought this gen, btw)

Also, why are you championing Haze's sales? Crappy games selling better is not a good thing, as it'll only lead to more crap. I'm glad mediocre stuff flops on the Wii. And it isn't as if great games on the HD consoles never flop - see games listed previously in the thread. Looking at Clover's past games' performances, it's clear the problem isn't the platform.

I do agree on your bit about length. However, people wouldn't always complain about it if games nowadays had some good re-playability, but they don't (unless the game itself has old-school values).

I'm not really "championing" Haze's sales.  Just using it as an example to show that there is clearly a market for FPS titles on the PS3 where there isn't on the Wii.  "There's enough of a market for FPS titles on the PS3 that even the crap sells pretty well."  People are going to buy crappy games no matter what, and the Wii is proof of that.  Carnival Games should never have sold even 10 copies, let alone the millions it's pushed.

For what it's worth, while I'm still at Best Buy, in the games department, I do my best to steer Wii shoppers away from crap.  You want to see championining?  I suggest Kirby's Epic Yarn constantly

Madworld was a mediocre game with little appeal. It wouldn't have been a hit on any console.

Sega is run by morons. Do they think mature gamers only care about violence? Many M rated games just happen to have the most depth. People might actually buy Sega games if they created producs with more value.

Epic fail Sega! Madworld would have sold crap on the PS360. Just look at No More Heroes PS360 version, it bombed very hard while Wii version sold half a million.

Haze is about as apt an example as Red Steel was for Wii.  Both games were terrible and sold largely because they launched early, had little competition, and were hyped to hell by platform evangelists.  A theoretical Haze 2 would also probably sell about as well as Red Steel 2 did (ie: barely)... neither proves anything about the suitability or market presence for FPS on their respective platforms.

Oh boy...

The PS360 version hasn't even been released outside of Japan. Late ports aren't generally known for great sales either. On that note, the PS360 ports combined have outsold the Wii version in Japan.

Look at the sales of NMH2 by the way. Sorry, but I'm reluctant to say the Wii was the best choice for the NMH franchise. Perhaps they should have went multi from day one.

That's not true. If No More Heroes would have been released firstly on the PS360 it would have sold badly. PS360 owners only appreciate games because of the graphics and No More Heroes is a game in cel shading, so epic fail.

I'd say NMH's rise really was helped by being a Wii game, and being unique on the platform in that.  Not in Japan obviously, but elsewhere.  Word of mouth helped, but I don't think it'd have gotten the same sort of attention as a 360 and/or PS3 title back in 2008, it'd have probably slipped through the cracks.

We'll see how the Move version does when it hits America/Europe.  Shame that Konami binned the 360 version in the US though, it'd have done better of the two systems there.

Personally, I see publishers/developers blaming the platform for a games poor sales is (effectively) like a professional sporting team blaming "The Referees" for failing to make the playoffs ... Certainly the platform can have an impact, but countless decisions they made in the production and release of the game all have a much larger impact. Off the top of my head, here are the reasons I think Madworld struggled

1) Art Style. From Okami to Killer 7, countless games that create a non-photo realistic art style end up suffering. Potentially, down the road, a couple of big breakout hits with their own style will change this; but (for now) pushing a distinctive style is a good approach to have an unsuccessful game.

2) New IP. Across all platforms, most of the most successful third party games have been a sequel to an established IP; and most of the successful new IPs have been one of the best games of the year and had a massive marketing campaign.

3) Unconventional Genre. While there are elements of Madworld's game play which are similar to some popular games, I don't think there is a game that has ever been like Madworld which has been successful.

4) Short and yet highly repetitive game. After I completed Madworld I thought that the reviewers were not harsh enough on this title because by the time you were getting close to the end of the game it was getting pretty boring. To make the game (much) more enjoyable at its length it needed (nearly) twice as much to do in the game, and to make the game really a worthwhile purchase it needed (about) twice as much game play.

5) Insignificant local multiplayer and no online multiplayer. Look at the most successful games on any console and notice that the majority of these games have multiplayer modes which are as important (or more important) than their single player game.

If these factors remained unchanged it is unlikely that the increase in sales Madworld would see by being released on the HD consoles would compensate for the increased development cost.

wow, you get proven wrong and forge right ahead without a thought.  It'd be impressive if it wasn't so dissapointing.

...

@DavidValbu  no offense but you are coming of as very ignorant, Im pretty sure you dont even own an HD console, Im all for people not liking whatever but at least know what the hell you are talking about before you post nonsense. There have been many succesful games on the HDs that were not all about graphics. Castle Crashers is one, you think COD does well because of graphics???? hell no, its the damn online for that.

@resident hazard I am loving your comments man, dont stop. Ive been saying that the Wii just does not have the FPS audience that PS360 have for years, but its always some excuse. "But, the Wii games have less content." no crap HD games retail for $60 dollars and the Wii ones for $50, why should the HD gamers get more content there paying MORE money. thats how things usually works. even when thats not the case (black ops) they still find some reason why these games dont sell as well on WIi despite a much bigger install base. oh and im not a WII hater I bought Goldeneye day1, love it, play it, AND champion whenver I can. If that game does not hit a mil in at least the next 3 months then I dont know what to say
