Evolution doesn't work for a spiecies, it's something like - someone who randomly is better adapted to his enviorment is born, and after hundreds of thoudands of years his special attribute makes his decendants the only ones left.

Except from lab study shows because of sex if a person does have one of these so called "small beneficial  step" that is need for evolution it will most likely get deluded and over time completely disappear.

Scientist has known for a long time about the problem of trying to get each "baby step" to become fit in a population. Evolution requires a lot of death for every beneficial step.

Think of an alien man from space came to earth and could mate with woman on earth. This alien was just like humans except just a little superior ( a few baby steps) than the human race. When he mates with a earthly woman he slighty superior genes will be mixed with the woman's inferior genes. So his offspring will be inferior than the alien. With every generation the alien genes are more and more deluded and eventually  genetic drift will cause the gene totally disappear.

Now if the alien was asexual and made clones of itself. Eventually the alien population could get large enough to wipe out the inferior human race from the planet.

...What?

Genes don't mix with genes dude, you either have them, or you don't.

Check how the concept of recessive and dominant genes work.

I have basicly 50 % of my father's genes and 50% of my mother's.  If I could easily recieve a beneficial gene from my father then turn around get a bad gene from my mother. Then you have the majority of neutral  mutation which makes it hard for a beneficial gene to become fit.

And you should probably read all of my post, not just the part of it that you quoted.

It doesn't make any difference since benficial mutation is not the only ones that can become dominant.  It doesn't chance the fact there are more ways of destroying something including life than creating it. There is reason to believe modern man is seriously screwing up our enviroment and our offspring.

Of course humanity will continue to evolve.  Those citing modern scientific development as a block for evolution are forgetting that as our society progresses the needs of society change.  The smarter more capable will always be more likely to survive.  We easily miss it happening but those with greater intellectual capabilities are continuing their genes with much greater sucess then the idiots of the world.

Think about it, who's more likely to become a CEO, a guy with a GED and a below average IQ or the guy who got a perfect score on his SAT?

with advances in medical science, evolution will never take place in humans anymore. we are as perfect as we can be.

Don't smart people tend to have fewer children than stupid people (mainly because smart people tend to use birth control and practice family planning, while stupid peopler mate like rabbits)?

Plus, I doubt that nerdy scientists who are extremely smart have as much reproductive success as a stupid jock.

That is not how evolution works...there is no "first" animal or "transition period".

Here is a good website for reading about evolution: http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-evolution.html

There will be no more human evolution thanks to modern technology. Evolution comes from the need for something, but since we can build whatever we need we aren't going to evolve.

The only evolution that's possible now is from artificial selection.

That's just my opinion.

Certain early-life fatal conditions and diseases will continue to be selected against, and selection of sexual characteristics (and preferences) will continue as long as people can choose who they have children with. But I tend to agree.

Yeah that's true. Isn't selection of sexual characteristics artificial selection though?

I think you're right about early life conditions.

I see your point, but I think of artificial selection as a concious effort by a collective (breeding). Selection on characteristics happens in all species sentient or not, and humans still can't really choose what they find attractive conciously.

The movie Idiocracy (a comedy) ran off that precept, that a man with an exactly average IQ today was frozen into the future, and awoke to find himself a super genius because the birth trends were only for the stupid to continually reproduce, and found a society of idiots

Hey guys, so yesterday I was stealing knowledge from Wikipedia again, and I wondered, if homo sapiens sapiens (the species of humans we all are) have been around for ~250,000 years, it would not be too far-fetched to believe humans will evolve sometime soon.

And if a human evolved to the "posthuman", when would you think he/she do it? Where do you think the evolution would take place first? (With science as advanced as it is today, it would be easy to trace back the beginning of the evolution, assuming it happened sometime in the future)

Also, why do you think would the human evolve? Or, do you think humans have reached a stop on their evolution process? With humans pretty much "conquering" the planet, I can't see many reasons for an evolution from a survival point of view. Then again, the ones living in extreme conditions, such as the Poles, may be able to evolve over time, and if humanity starts spreading out to other planets, maybe the humans over there would gain new features to adapt better to the planet they're on.

Discuss!

Actually people in the poles have extra skin and have adapted to the condition in there environment. Look at the different skin color, thats another form of the skin adapting to over exposure and under exposure to the sun.

I think we will have the technology to evolve our selfs in the future as we see fit. We will most likely be man and machine or tamper with genes to grow back limbs and all sorts of stuff. So Yea I think in our lifetime you will see humans come close to immortality accept for freak accidents. Good article though. You can find a lot of this info on science channel and sciencechannel.com

Evolution is essentially constant but the rate of effect varies depending upon circumstance.  It's wrong to think about us being one variation for a set period of time then magically changing.  Each minor change in any creature happens over time and I'd argue it's very hard to state - we evolved from A to B at this point.

When you look at species on very long timeframes the whole notion of that's a rabit - or that's a homo sapiens - becomes a bit vague.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Where have I heard a rant like this before, oh yeah?!

“Leading Nazis, and early 1900 influential German biologists, revealed in their writings that Darwin’s theory and publications had a major influence upon Nazi race policies. Hitler believed that the human gene pool could be improved by using selective breeding similar to how farmers breed superior cattle strains. In the formulation of their racial policies, Hitler’s government relied heavily upon Darwinism, especially the elaborations by Spencer and Haeckel. As a result, a central policy of Hitler’s administration was the development and implementation of policies designed to protect the ‘superior race’. This required at the very least preventing the ‘inferior races’ from mixing with those judged superior, in order to reduce contamination of the latter’s gene pool. The ‘superior race’ belief was based on the theory of group inequality within each species, a major presumption and requirement of Darwin’s original ‘survival of the fittest’ theory. This philosophy culminated in the ‘final solution’, the extermination of approximately six million Jews and four million other people who belonged to what German scientists judged as ‘inferior races’.”

I think the only thing my decedents are going to be doing is killing more Nazi.

On a side note, I think people here are confusing evolution with mutation.
