Unlike the PS2 its competition had their archectitures closer to PC-like components, especially Xbox.  PS2 had the Emotion Engine and the GPU: Synthesizer.  Gamecube had ATi graphics and an IBM PowerPC Gekko processor.  Also, the PS2 had problems with Aliasing that developers had to spend extra time to implement tricks to make it look less worse. But then again PS2 had an edge over Gamecube once again with the media storage.

I'm guessing those with closer to PC-like archectitures are easier to develop for.

A 10 year plan for the PS3 does not mean that there will be no PS4 until that 10 year period is up... it simply means that Sony plan to keep the PS3 alive for 10 years, even if the PS4 happens to arrive before that (it's happened before with previous gen consoles).

You trolling or just plain stupid?, if you actually knew what the PS3 is capable of, you'd know it's pretty much maxed out now, same goes for the XBOX 360. The G70 GPU in the PS3 is a dated pile of garbage and the same goes for the Cell, which by the way doesn't have 8 cores (I rage when people say this), it has 1 core and 7 (or was it 8?) SPE's... big difference. If you honestly believe a GPU based on the same architecture as the 7800GTX is some sort of powerhouse then that just shows you know nothing.

I predict the next XBOX coming in 2012, and the PS3 in 2013.

I really could see sony skipping the next gen and droping new hardware 3/4 years after wii2/720 came out.

Hell of a risk though.

Could work, take the time to release hardware that is quite superior to the competition and is packing Uncharted Killzone Gran Turismno all in its first year of release.

What matters the most to Sony is marketshare,and they can't let the competitors gain so much ground.

and yes... as naughty dog and alot of recent big exclusive game developers have said.. the PS3 is NOT maxed out. Killzone 2 doesnt max it out and Uncharted 2 hasnt maxed it out. those games by far look the best so far on the system and im sure that there developers know more about game design then you.

I don't think all 3 consoles will drop in the same year. The way the Wii is trending year to year, 2012 is the best bet for the Wii 2 to be released unless Nintendo puts out a killer app that sell along the lines of Wii Fit, Wii Play and New Super Mario Bros. Wii in 2011. Sadly, I don't think Zelda Skyward Sword will be that app.

My gut tells me a 2012 holiday release for the Wii 2 followed 8 months to a year later by the NeXtbox and PS4 within a couple months span of each other.

History has shown with the Dreamcast (Released in 1998; PS1 released in 1994; N64 released in 1996) and Nintendo 64 (Released in 1996; PS1 was released in 1994) that if a console launches 18 months or later after their competition in the latest generation, they will never be the top selling console of the latest generation.

The sole exception to this rule is the Super Nintendo which released in NA in 1991, 2 years after the Sega Genesis was released in NA in 1989. I don't want to say much further as the SNES vs. Genesis debate is a long and convoluted one.

I'm quite sure that the Uncharted Devs said that it was going to be a trilogy and not a quadrilogy some years ago.
