Forums - Sony - PSP2 to Rival PS3 Graphics

As far as graphics are concerned, the PSP 2 is a beast, packing enough processing hardware to produce graphics comparable to early PlayStation 3 titles. The processor, we're told, is just over half as powerful as the PS3, though the specific framework of the cores and the clock speed was not revealed.

I guess it means...$599?

Lol, try 10x that. The latest most expensive smart phones (Iphone 4 and windows 7 phones) that are around £500 each only have 1ghz processors. And have pitiful graphics chips. If the above is true that means the PSP2 has 8 cores running at 1.6ghz or 4 running at  3.2ghz. I very much doubt neither.

Pehaps Pacther was right about the Psp2 being dead on arrival. It'll be too expensive or just melt into a puddle of plastic.

Well in terms of rumors, IGN is legit. Knowing Sony, the PSP2 will have power in between the Wii/360. This seems like a bad idea because of the fact that it will be a portable PS3 (AGAIN). That is what steered devs away from the first PSP (that and piracy).  If Sony has leaned anything this gen, its: make a portable system PORTABLE. If the PSP2 were to launch with those specs, Sony's setting themselves up for PSP vs DS round 2.

On another note, no games have been confirmed yet, Sony said that there wouldn't be glasses-less 3D, and the PSPPhone is practically confirmed with that video.

With all that being said, I'd rather Sony take on the iPhone than the 3DS. Like I said, PSP vs DS round 2.

Good lord...this better be cost-efficient, and it must have a competitive price tag...because otherwise, Sony has learned nothing from this generation.

My thoughts exactly. Also, battery-life, oh dear.

We'll see.

Another thing I wondered about was the fact that any time downloadable games are mentioned, do not want is usually the follow up comments. That means that hardly anyone from here would actually want to buy it without physical media.

Tease.

ohhh no!!!

i love all i have heard but dear god it can not be expensive

The PS3 needs a price cut and this PSP2 needs to be cheaper! so PS3 at £199 and PSP2 at £170ish on launch! PS3 $229, PSP2 $189

REALITY: PSP2 - $399... and £300 launch... it will arrive dead if thats the case. i wont buy one untill its the same as the PSP1 was at launch £170. wow feels weird that... PSP1..

Also does anyone think the PSP COULD get to 70mil lifetime? i really wish it would

hopefully sony will slash the PSP1 price to like £80 and sell the shit out of them

If that's the case I see a Slimmer PS3 at a cheaper price hitting the market sometime in 2011.

yeh, i think 2011 Christmas will bring the Real PS3 slim, not PS2 slim slim but it will be a lot smaller then the 1st PS3.. maybe half the size with hopefully a $199 price.. but im not so sure about the price lol

for crying out loud, another rumor thread with psp2 doomedz comments -_ - at least wait until we actually KNOW what it is gonna be like

The PSP should make it to 70 mil sold/shipped by early-mid next year.  As of Sept of this year its already sold/shipped 64.2 mil, and with the holiday boost, it should reach 67-68 mil by the end of this year.

As far as price goes, they'll probably put it out for a price in the ballpark of the PSP1's original price, $250-$300.  I'd expect $300 to be closer to the real price.  So I know I'm definitely getting it.  Or maybe the PSP Phone if it can play PSP2 games.  Or maybe both.

if the screen is, let's say 576p, why shouldn't it be PS3 early-title-like graphics? Reducing the resolution to that would allow them to still output nearly the same graphics like the PS3. And you won't notice the difference on such a small screen. The battery life could be really a problem, though, unless they magically develop a Fusion battery.

Don't try, no one has a small bit of common sense on this site.

woo if you look back and the PSP had 70million in sales it makes it look like it had a really strong life and always sold good. it deserves 70million! although it has about 100 games.. lol

i think the PSP phone wont rung PSP2 games. i think its just a Playstation emulator in a Sony Erricson. will still be just App games but under the Playstation Brand. i dont expect it to take off at all
