The shadows are really improved online imo there are still some bad ones but yeah.

The mechanical damage is actually good. I tried on heavy and my car was a total mess after very few bumps.

Go go PD! Im sure we'll see more types of updates like this, offline & online.

Haven't jumpd on it yet. So the offline shadows aren't improved?

Not from what I can tell... I dont really look at it much and there are only few tracks that have unforgivable shadow imo. Not all are that bad really.

Improved shadows... I wonder..  to patch it within a few days after release is great but seriously... don't you like notice that in those 5 years you work on a game?

i (and a lot of other people) noticed them in the GT Academy  demo, it seems Sony doesn't notice stuff until IGN tell them so.

Or they doesn't have time to work... because the release date was delayed a lot of time.

huh? delays would mean no time? , delays are meant to make the game better.

besides they patched it up in just a few days, special effects like shadows don't need a lot of time to tweak.

Which is probably why they didn't worry about it. They worked on more than just graphics, and it shows in the final product.

Anyway, has anyone tried the patch yet? How are the improvements?

i did, the shadows still flicker =s

First review... so much damage to ruin a race.

GT5 Patch 1.03: Mechanical Damage Verdict

Verdict
Unfortunately we can’t help but think that mechanical damage still needs a bit of work. We prefer the light damage option, which seems a bit more forgiving in the actual damage received and less likely to ruin a race. However, its brief period of effect means it’s less bothersome and open to abuse from aggressive racers – and considering that the penalty system already in place does a decent job of stopping that kind of racing means mechanical damage is, so far, a little redundant.

What we would like to see is a medium damage option, filling the void between light and heavy that makes it suitable for those looking to race properly, but not so excessive that a single, slight collision should destroy the chance to win.

geez, those reviewers are hopeless.

So now they don't want mechanical damage? Polyphony Digital just can't win.

PD should do a hardcore damage mode = You hit something at high speed, your save gets erased due to your virtual driver dying, and implement it via a patch just for the lulz.

The amount of meltdowns would be amazing xD

Maybe it can track ID and delete scores also =]

and about the AI... of course in challenges and license the AI will be different, because it's pre-programed so you can use tatics to beat it... just dumb reviewers think it should be different (if AI really were used would be impossible to really win the challenges).

But again... let the damage be real, if you totalled you have to start a new career.

@CGI-Quality: would be really funny if the shadows were fixed just in online =]

I agree with you in this 100%. The Lap Battles would be impossible to even get bronze if the A.I had near the same skill as they have in A-Spec. Especially in Lap Battles such as Rome with the 512b where all the A.I cars are of equal or higher BHP  and similar weight than your own car, and the passing points in Rome are almost non-existent xD.

Much of GT4 challenges (the last ones, hardcores) where always against cars simillar or better than you... and you need to perfect your lap and passing points... if they changed everylap and the oponent raced as it should using "perfect AI'' not even the programmer or a F-1 champion would win any of them...

People sometimes are so dense... for me the AI always improved... up to GT3 or 4 the AI didn't cared about you and kept a line without missing or doing mistakes... in 5P they bump on you, brake when you try to use them to make turns, and brake when you are behind them so you get punished... so i don't see in GT5 the AI being easier...

I'll probably take more than 1 year to make it to 100% completition...

So, what does it make of the progressive damage system the had in the game with the latest patch?

Reviewers bithced about no damage and now they start bitching about the damage being too heavy. How about they just shut the hell up already.

now they just need to improve the AI... can that be done in a patch?

I hope so. The AI is terrible and fucking annoying. They go out of their way to get in your way and then usually brake or whatever to fuck you up.
