Forums - Microsoft - According to IGN Xbox 360 to have an amazing lineup in 2011

Yeah, who would have thought in Jan this year would have turned out better SW wise for the 360 ... same will happen next year IMO despite the flood of PS3 games (of which most will be delayed or turn out not as great as hyped to be)

The flood of PS3 games aren't about sales, but variety and offering. "Most" games won't be delayed "overhyped" (though you can't really have a realistic opinion without owning the system).

It's just in past years, the 360 had more lined up than 2011 looks to have. It's not an insult, just an observation, and people who are fair rarely comment on it.

Wasn't talking about sales remotely. PS3 had several games delayed this holiday into next year, so much so it only had GT5 :-S and even that wasn't a dead cert only a month ago.

I didn't say the games were bad, just overhyped (and they are, don't need to play them to guage fan reaction)

At your last comment, wrong. Until E3 2009 MS rarely gave out news on upcoming games, but decided to for 2010 for some reason.

I expect more than half of these to be Kinect titles.  I expect like 3-5 non-Kinect titles to be announced by years end.

We will see what the lineup is but I imagine that IGN was mostly referring to a few exclusives and a majority of 3rd party games.

Or perhaps after their pact with Gamestop they will hype even more Xbox360 as it sells better on their market.

Well overhyped is subjective. And again, I wouldn't expect a realistic opinion without experience, but I guess that's just me. The only other game delayed was LBP 2, which was smart given what it had to go up against. Considering what kind of year PS3 had, I don't think anyone is going to complain about what it did in 2010. And outside of Halo: Reach, MS didn't have many core games for the holiday either  :-S Doesn't matter though, as neither fanbase was complaining.

Your last sentence isn't true. I was excited about plenty of upcoming games in 2007 & 2008 for the 360 because of pre-hype. Microsoft doesn't announce as many games as Nintendo or Sony, true, but they do have game announcements. As I've said, even sites backing MS have noticed that 2011 looks a little empty at the moment. With the VGAs, however, I'm sure they've got stuff to announce, which is great.

Limiting it to core games really isn't fair, as we're talking about exclusives (which are typically 1st/2nd party offerings).  But Halo Reach and Fable III are two huge core holiday releases.  Kinect's offerings added more all ages exclusives.  Most importantly, though, nothing was delayed.

One of my favorite games this gen for the 360 was formally revealed some 2 months before it was released (Shadow Complex) and Forza III was similar.  Both games went on to sell great numbers, get high metacritic scores and were enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of gamers.  For me personally (and a number of other gamers that gave it a chance) I can add Banjo Kazooie: Nut and Bolts to that.  So a game doesn't need years of hype to sell well and satisfy gamers on the 360.  The apparent lack of 2011 MGS titles shouldn't have caused concern to anyone that's been paying attention this gen.

As for the VGA's ........ have we ever seen any good gameplay reveals there?  They've always been cinematic reveals for games that are sometimes very far off (Keighley said there is one "Coming 2013" game that will be revealed).  So I guess I've tempered my excitement for only announcements and nothing all that exciting to see.

MS doesn't announce because they don't make much games...

But-but-but the 360 doesn't have any exclusives next year other than GeoW3.  PS3 line up for 2011 is infinitely better.  VGC community told me so.

Yeah!  The PS3 line up for 2011 has too many good games!!  We're all going to go broke next year!  Curse you Sony for making us buy so many good games!!

downplaying another console's lineup by calling the games overhyped seems like kind a shitty thing to do, but if you want to go that route it can go against the 360 as well.

I remember quite a few people predicting ME2 type Meta for Halo Reach and now it sits at 91: overhyped (while I'm on the subject I dinstintly remember you claming Halo was in a totally different league from Killzone 2 based on Meta, so I find it hilarious that Reach has the same meta as KZ2)

Alan Wake was another contendor for 9 's with many people simply assuming it would beat out Heavy Rain and it didn't: overhyped

Fable 3 again a game where people were thinking Fable would finally get in the 9's and instead it's at 8.0

So if we're just going to discount lineups based on what we deem as overhyped games, maybe the 360 didn't have the banner 2010 people like to think.

...

Great News!! Can't wait to see some of this "amazing Lineup"

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

I love this post. "Downplaying a lineup seems like a shitty thing to do" and then what do you do? Oh that's right, you did the same thing he did. Fantastic. Two wrongs definitely make a right. Shouldn't you be, you know, setting an example on this site instead of partaking in what you yourself have called "a shitty thing to do?" Maybe I just expect more from staff on this site, but making that kind of statement and then posting four paragraphs after pointing out bad behavior makes me want to beat my head against the wall.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I was making a point that the idea of a lineup not being that great because it was overhyped could go both ways and showing him that his console of choice wasn't immune.  It's called a debate dude, just because I'm on staff doesn't mean I can't partake in an argument if I so care to.
