VERY impressive, Kinect is fastest selling product in electronics history ... yet some people still try and make it sound negative xD I guess it means it's working if it has them fearful of it.

The iPhone 4 sold 1.5 Million on its first day ...

2.5 Million in 25 days durring the biggest shopping orgy in the year doesn't seem that impressive

I think he means new product

""The adoption rate of the iPad was celebrated as the fastest ever in electronics history. Now, less than a year after the tablet's launch, Microsoft has usurped that distinction with Kinect."

Doesn't really add up, either it is or that quote is a lie.

? :-S "The adoption rate of the iPad was celebrated as the fastest ever in electronics history. Now, less than a year after the tablet's launch, Microsoft has usurped that distinction with Kinect."

So based on an arbitrary timeline Kinect has become the fastest selling electronics product ever ...

Yippie! I love cherry picking!

What arbitrary timeline? Point it out? I'm just quoting the article.

Few product releases ever have adequate supply, so any product that does have adequate supply could probably claim to be the fastest selling product ever by choosing an arbirary date.

selling 2.5 million copies of a product which I think is expensive is very impressive, MS can't even keep it in stock. The only issue is it's selling mostly in America and has not really put the 360 ahead of the other consoles as most expected. This thing would have been crazy had it been below $100 buck.

Don't you mean WHEN it's below $100?

I personally don't own it, as there is not yet enough compelling software released or shown for me to justify the cost (and ... I'm broke), but I sure can't wait to see what all of those developers that were so excited about it are going to come up with.  Initial sales like this likely mean that Kinect development will pick up, so maybe some of those crazy ideas will see fruition and cause it to REALLY pick up right when the price IS lower.

Its so funny to see how many people are trying to undermine Kinect's sales.  Relax guys, just because Kinect is selling well doesn't mean Sony is going to go under all of the sudden, geez.

@Happy Squirrel:  Your points you make in your rebuttal are very weak and almost make no sense.  What problem do you have against Kinect?

Oh and NO I do not own one nor do I desire to own one.  I do appreciate it's success however, as I also appreciate the Move's success.

Its actually performing rather similarly to Wii Fit if you align the numbers (Wii Fit launched in Japan in Dec 2007, vs. spring 2008 in the West) on a worldwide basis. That comparison strikes me as more valid since both were effectively new controllers bundled with a game to an existing base. Wii Fit did about 2.6m in three weeks. Its still not a perfect comparison, as Wii Fit sold to a smaller base in 2007-2008 than X360 has now, and costs less than Kinect. Wii Fit's 2.6m was also 3 wks in Americas / Others / Japan while Kinect's 2.5m is 25 days in the USA, and less than that in Europe and Japan. But I'd say the price (in favor of strong performance on X360) / base (in favor of strong performance of Wii) and regional differences (21 days in three equal regions vs. 25 days in strongest region and less time in weaker regions for kinect) just about offset each other.

It really is rather similar to Wii Fit...but launched over Christmas.

No offense but the first 2 weeks of Kinect the advertising and promos related to Kinect probably helped with the sales.

Such as every 15 minutes if you go to Burger King and get a whopper you have a chance to win a Kinect.

Target giving a free kinect with 100$ worth of purchase. This all happening the week of Black Friday probably helped sales a lot.

But yes, the Kinect is doing amazing and better then I expected. Grats too it.

So you're trying to downplay Kinect's sales because Microsoft backed it with advertising, and promotions? Can you name me one massively successful product that received no advertising or promotions?

My guess is no.

I'm not sure in with category of most sold electronic kinect falls into.

It can't compete with phones can it? Comparing it to the iPAD doesn't make much sense. More like Source said, Wii Fit may be a fair comparison...
