I don't like the options in the poll. One option should have been "below expectations, but good none-the-less". 'Cause that's an exact reflection of my view.
a) It's a better first week than any other HD console racer this gen, right?
b) Uncharted 2 launch with less than 1/2 that amount and it's at 4 million now. That means 8 million for GT5 is not out of the question within 1/5 - 2 years (I know launch week doesn't translate to LTD, but still most people were saying 2 million LTD for Uncharted 2).
c) 20% lower launch than GT4 => 20% lower LTD = 8 million-ish.
d) 2 million FW = 4.9% attach rate within 4 days. You simply CAN'T be disappointed with that.
GT isn't what it was on PS1 and PS2, but it's still a great franchise with a sizeable player base. I think the lower LTD sales than GT4 will be a good motivator for PD to get the finer details right off the track, so to speak.
If GT6 launches on PS3 and it addresses all the gripes people have about GT5, and it also expands on GT5, GT6 could sell even better than GT5. If GT6 is a launch title for PS4 and it does all those things then it will be an excellent and major HW selling bit of SW for PS4.
So GT still has a bright future, if PD keep moving the franchise forward.
