I doubt the number of people who think $299.99 for a PS3 is too expensive is too big. I just think people are split 50/50 between the 360 and PS3 and this trend has always been there and always will be there for the rest of this generation. PS2 BC isn't important anymore because the PS3 has an amazing line-up of games, online, multimedia and content. Plus, if the person already owns a PS2, then the lack of BC shouldn't be a problem.

i have a PS3 now, but a year-year and half ago i never thought i'd buy one. a little had to to with the Price but mostly because it had no BC. I already have a Wii, so i would never have had room for a PS2 and PS3 all in my room. So instead i sold my PS2 and all games and used the money to buy a PS3 a little sad now because some of the PS2 games were really good, but ah well.

Over 80% of people who bought a console in the previous generation paid less than $200; and when the previous generation's consoles were 4 or 5 years old people were paying $150 (or less) for their console and getting multiple games with it. Certainly, inflation, technology and features may make people far more willing to pay more for a console today but $300 is still expensive for most customers; and if the system is lacking a major feature they desire (like backwards compatibility) it might be too expensive for these gamers to be willing to spend.

When I had to decide between a ps3 and a xbox360 the lack of b/c was very crucial in my decision.I was a GC only owner so I have missed most of ps2's diamonds.I thought it would be better to spend 200 for a 360 and 100 for a ps2 than 400 for a ps3.If back then ps3 was 300 with b/c I wouldn't have had a second thought.

Now I believe a 300 non b/c ps3 is expensive.The 300 xbox360 is expensive as well.Heck even the 200 wii is expensive...

And even tough the lack o b/c i still bought a PS3, I have a PS2 for those games... But nevermind I agree that a price cut or new SKU with b/c (even tought it's useless for me, and most gamers in 5 year of PS3) would bring alot of new customers that used to play PS2.

Too anyone not buying a PS3 because it's too expensive and has no BC, wah.  Loving my 60g launch model.  Life sure sucks from the Peanut Gallery doesn't it?

There may not really be any new PS2 games coming out, but the back catalog for the system is one of the best game libraries ever! I still play my PS2 games (more than I do PS3 games actually).

Well it is nice not having to use any memory cards, or having to worry about hooking up another console to your tv. Plus the PS3 w/BC can slightly upscale PS2 games (I believe).The DS3 controllers are also wireless.

If my (slim) PS3 had BC, then I wouldn't really bother playing my PS2 games on my PS2 and I would use the PS3 instead for convenience. I play my PS1 games on my PS3 instead of my PS2 (just so I don't have to worry about moving stuff around on memory cards, wireless controllers are nice, etc.)

probably played PS2 games for about 2 hours, even though I have over 10 games. DMC3, KH2, GTA3...

once you played PS3 games on HDTV, it's just hard to go back

Then they should buy this TV and hook up a PS3.  Instant BC (sort of) plus a nice 720p display for the PS3 in your bedroom.
