What do you mean everytime? Saying "all games push HW" ... you only have to say it once to mean it .. unless you don't mean it anymore.

As entertaining as this back and forth is, could you answer my question on why GT5 can't hit a million second week when GT4 did it and GT5 has the holiday at its back?

Sure.

Different buying trends, different console, different users, past trends THIS gen (not last gen), fact it had 4 days this week rather than the 2 it would normaly have had. We'll just see aye.

More like :

The reviews are lower.

The competition is higher.

The long wait did some damage.

But your points are good too though.

GT4 has an 89 meta.  GT5 has 85 with scores still coming in.  Hardly a gap, not to mention that people largely don't give a crap about reviews.  The long wait only did damage for critics, a.k.a. the irrelevant people.  The only decent point is the competition, and the Wii seems to be handling it;s competition pretty well.

I think, once again, we should wait and see instead of making impulsive claims and past trends.

You think the long wait did damage to the critics only? Many people that were waiting for GT5 to release, stopped waiting for the release and went to other racing franchises...or just stopped playing racing games, simple as that.

People say that on the internet, sure.  They're frustrated.  When the game releases, anyone who really cared for the game will either get or get interested again.  Long releases happen frequently.  The new Half Life is gonna sell 2 copies because they're taking so long right? No, it'll sell just like the others.

Some may have gotten Xboxes and switched to Forza? Fine.  I personally don't think it'll be that much of an impact, leading me back to my wildly inventive "wait and see" approach.  No one know what's going to happen, and to profess otherwise is silly.

lolwut? did someone actually pull out the gt5 bombed card? REALLY? 1mil plus is a bomb these days? ok then

Well people were playing the same card after Reach failed to set records, i've just stopped expecting people to be rational...

@topic: Of course ~2M FW (once American and Japanese sales are included) is a massive success by any objective measure, the problem is that people like to measure success against their subjective standards.

So, respectable opening, as expected, but with that said I do not expect it to do 1M week 2.  I think GT5 had a lot more built up anticipation than 4 did considering the longer interval between 4 and 5 than there was from 3 to 4, and also the longer wait from prologue to full release.  All those factors lead to a little more frontloading imo...

Yeah, but what opponent did just dance have?Exactly, none. When people look at GT5's score, they will see that NFS:HP and Forza 3 have higher reviews, and what will they do,in the most probable case?Choose them over GT5.

That may not make a big difference, but it still has a small impact.

Good sales but I was honestly expecting PS3 up there in the 400-500K range due to the assurances that "GT5 will push loadssssss of hardware". Good boost nevertheless..

360 hanging on in there it seems, overall this week should be relatively close, I reckon that 360 will trail PS3 by about 50k.. Not bad considering the GT5 release day ON Black Friday week. Unless ofcourse the 360 is ahead of PS3 in Americas by about 170-180K, which is highly doubtful lol.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Apparently GT4's first week was over more time, so I think it may be too soon to judge.  I don't know about 10 million, but it should have the legs to get to 8 or 9 million.  It's really hard to say until we get more data and see a few weeks.

See, that's an internet mindset.  To a lot of the people going out to get GT5 (a bit of a different base than GT5), they couldn't care less.  NFS doesn't have the pedigree of GT.  The name triggers an instant "Must get" in people over the others, kind of like COD.

There will be a small, incalculable impact, but I don't think it's frankly worth even discussing.
