When I was a kid, I used to be able to finish, for instance, Super Castlevania 4 (SNES) without losing a single life, no kidding...this was back in 1992...now 18 years later I´m sucking at DKCR, I´m finding it pretty difficult, and have already died more times in the game than in any other game released this year (for example, I have played both God of War 3 and Bayonetta on hard and died less than in DKCR)...I´m now in world 4 and dying often.
I guess 15 years of playing 3D platformers and action games have definitely left me rusted.
Anyone else in the same boat or kind of?

Games these days have made you too soft, as most basically hold your hand throughout the game. That's why amongst a sea of mediocrity on the HD consoles (and in part on the Wii as well), I embrace games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion. They give you a couple of comodities to work with then send you on your way.
DKCR reverts back to the old school style of games that made you do all the playing. It didn't do 75% of the playing for you. That is one reason I love 2D platformers so much. They are largely based on fast reactions and relying on your own raw gaming skills than anything else.
Anyway, I find the DKCR a mixed back in terms of difficulty. Quite simple during many levels, walking through without dying once, yet a few completely blindside me and cause me to burn 10-15 lives on a single level, like the minecart levels later in the game. Most of the difficulty though lies in seeking out all the puzzle pieces and in some cases the KONG letters. Just strolling through the levels without worrying about collectibles I find is usually easy.
