Amazing, huh. For a third place console, it bothers so many people that either the console or its games does well. People's expectations and reality is different. Sony shipped 500k, 430k was sold and people are talking shit.

Yeah true.

We can also compare the EMEAA/NA sales of GT5 to the EMEAA/NA of MH3 too!

Even though GT5 has the avantage of releasing during the holiday season, I'm interested to see how it tracks compared to MH3tri.  Because the latter had a bigger opening was considered a flop by quite a few people.

You want to compare those two games?

Why not?  GT definitely has the advantage but I think it might have the potention to turn out to be interesting...  GT also has a much bigger presence on consoles than Monster Hunter, which has the bulk of its audience primarily on handhelds - but I think it's a fun and fair comparsion.

Monster Hunter is a MUCH MUCH bigger franchise in Japan than GT, it's not even close. You only get to say this because the Wii version sold like a GT games rather than a Monster Hunter game.

Why not? Next week we can also compare MH3tri to MHP4rd... And see that the Wii game gets outsold in Week 1 for the PSP game.

If not, my apologies, but if indeed the above is in reference to me, you're definitely projecting...

It seems that it might be you who is bothered by the fact that I wish to compare the two games?

I'm not takin' anything away from GT5, I think it's done rather well.

On home console, I think it's a fair comparison.

No, it's not. GT will sell more this week than MH wii sold so far.

GT is popular everywhere, it's not a one territory game. Please don't compare it to MH, please.

Worldwide, of course.  GT is a much bigger franchise than Monster Hunter is worldwide - whether it's on console or handheld.  But where else would this comparison be even remotely interesting besides Japan?

And in Japan, GT is big but has been in steady decline on home console (the sole PSP version, I won't really consider since we don't have PSN sales).  Monster Hunter has only become comparable in sales to GT on home console solely due to the Wii iteration.  It wasn't until the game landed on a handheld did it find an audience and steadily increase in sales with each iteration.

Again, I don't see what the beef is.

There is no beef, just saying Monster Hunter is huge in JAPAN, look at the lines, GT is in decline, so why do you think people are going to call GT  a failure after just one week.

I never said GT5 was a failure.  And selling comparable to the latest version of Monster Hunter on Wii wouldn't make it a failure either.  People considered MH3 to be a failure long after Capcom repeatedly told them they were happy with sales for consecutive quarters.  I don't see an issue with comparing these two games.

And Monster Hunter IS huge - on PSP.  Never had a major console presence - which is probably why Capcom was very still pleased with only just over 1 million sold (as opposed to MILLIONS sold for the handheld iterations).

Oh, f'crying out loud. EVERY. FUCKING. WEEK. Can't we have a single Japan sales thread without people bitching about the Japan preview being off? It's just a preview, a guestimate. We don't guarantee that it's accurate; rather, it's what our analyst (TheSource) predicts based on trends and historical data. And frankly, he's still more accurate than some of the other analysts that some members here orgasm over at the mention of their name.

If this keeps up, there WILL be bans. It's getting to the point where I don't like coming into the Japanese sales threads because it's always the same thing. Unless you want to start making weekly predictions every week before any numbers are released, I don't want to see it anymore. Hell, if someone really wants to take me up on that, I'll be willing to crunch the numbers and give accuracy rates on everyone participating. It won't be prediction league quality, but it may be interesting...

The mods enforce existing rules, they don't make the rules and you particularly can't make up new rules on the fly in a thread and expect to be allowed to enforce it. People won't be banned for this, nor under an existing rule being stretched to cover it.

Speaking of forum rules, where are the rules?

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.
