If North Korea collapses politically... what left would there be for the US to do anyway?

Well outside trying to prevent any of their nasty weapons from being sold to terrorists.

Then again... I still think we have troops in Germany.   Just in case hitler isn't really dead and planning to start WW3 out of a wheelchair from room A110 from a german old folks home in Hamburg.

Hitler would be 120 years old or something. Maybe Hitler cloned himself. The  cloning of humans and animals was part of the Nazis secret experiments.

IMO North Korea are not much of a threat. They are a comical joke and they will just go away if we ignore them. Cuba was ignored for 50 years and they did not threaten the world. Communist nations should be left to be paranoid and shut off from the rest of the world.

Russia and China both gave up on Communism after almost  50 years of  isolation from the liberated West.

U.S. Gorvernment should mind their own business and shit.

they already have their asses involved in much more they should.

i went to S. Korea about a year back and the one thing that struck me was several of the people I met went out of their way not only to bring up US involvment in S. Korea but also to thank me.  i was all like, wtf?!?  i am too young to remember the Korean war but the S. Korea's are very happy with the US involvment that took place.

So no, I don't think the US should leave as they are probably one of the only places that actually wants us there.  but if Korea unified, hopefully the need for US troops would disapear and slowly over time we could reduce our presence there.

Why does everyone assume that without the US present in every situation, China will immediately invade everybody?

Taiwan maybe, but Japan and korea?

We have troops in japan and Germany, no reason to take them out of korea. We should reduce our force size however.

As for Russia, they started this mess by propping up their own little puppet government in North Korea at the end of World War 2. Russia should nut up or shut up because they have no leg to stand on regarding the Koreas other than creating the situation we have now.

The U.S. together with the U.N might as well be responsible for the mess trying to prevent the communists from uniting Korea.

I'd have to ask what the S.Koreans want as its their country and we are their ally. If they feel they are secure and would like us to leave, then so be it, but if not then its a good military strategy point in case we need to get tough in Asia.

I believe it would be in everyone's best interest if the US withdrawled. Even prior to the North's collapse, I think it'd still be best if we did remove most or all of our bases.

One of the North's biggest propoganda pieces is that South Korea is a puppet government of America. If you withdraw the troops, then the North has lost their main motivation for argument against the South Korean government.

However, we should keep weapon systems as close as possible, in the event of a war by the North, or China. We have enough material in Japan to provide a good enough deterrent for any sort of provocations.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'm little biased cause I was born and raised in S. Korea - though my dad is from the North.  Older Koreans like me hate the Commies and very thankful for the Americans.

If North Korea collapses without military conflict, S. Korea will need help from many other countries to establish a unified democratic Korea.  it'll take couple of trillion or more dollars many years of teaching the North Koreans about the democratic system and capitalism.

S. Korea and China have a good business relationship now so I don't think China will mind much of the unification, but they will demand Americans to leave.  I personally think the American troops should stay in unified Korea until everything settles down in Asia - which is never.
