Honestly I have no idea what Nintendo will do with the 'Super Wii' but I look forward to finding out!



 

I have found that the best games use motion control to augment regular control schemes, not as a replacement for it.

Maybe that is the ultimate lesson of this generation.

And it will take time for others to learn it.

2 things:

Why have they bundled the Wii Motion Plus with every console since May?

Why did they bother to create a Wii Remote Plus with the motion plus built-in?

If Nintendo was giving up on motion controls, these two decisions would have been pointless. They obviously have more motion controlled software in the works for next year.

Nintendo is simply going through a retro/2D phase right now, a direction I personally love, because 2D siderscrollers are some of my favorite games. But I have a feeling next year this will change, and they will shift to Motion Plus and Vitality Sensor. My prediction is Pikmin 3 will use Motion Plus alongside Zelda, and Zangeki will be localized, which also makes use of it, not to mention several other announced games.



Yeah, Nintendo made a big push for "traditional" controls (and genres) on Wii this year.  MH3 and the CCPro really spearheaded it (last year in Japan, this year elsewhere), but a lot of their 2nd party games are also highlighting optional "no motion" controls too recently (Xenoblade, S&P2, Endless Ocean 2, Reginliev, Punch-Out!, Last Story, etc) as have been 3rd party games (Goldeneye, Sonic Colors, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Samurai Warriors 3, Sengoku Basara 3, PES2010, Tales of Graces, Muramasa, NBA Jam, NMH2, etc, etc).

Weirdly, it hasn't been embraced much by Nintendo's internal studios though.  Mario Galaxy 2, NSMBWii, DKCR and Other M are all games that really could've worked on a Classic, Pro or GameCube pad, but didn't even give the option.

Metroid Other M could have worked on a classic controller, but would it have worked better than the wiimote or even good at all?  I don't think so.  The pointing aspect would have been tough to pull off unless you have a better button mapping setup than I can think of.

Oh sure... but even just having the option is the difference.  I don't think many people would argue S&P2 works better on a CC, but it still gives you the option for it.
