Thanks for setting this straight.

I think the system makes sense in GT5, but I'm kind of stumped with how it's been communicated. TBH I think PD have been a little aloof here in a way that has surely cost the game a fair few percentage points in reviews. It's also confused me as a player (who admitedly doesn't read the manual).
In terms of the reviewers PD know a review wants to be out early aligned to the launch. They really should have given a review guide for a title this big and even considered some save files at level 40, etc. to give to reviewers. A game this big cannot be fully reviewed in all aspects so it's important reviewers know whats in there (shock revelation - often reviewers are scoring on what they know is in the game rather than having fully played it for a levelling based game).
As for the consumer - I didn't know this. I was curious to check this out and immediately tried to prang my car and was very puzzled at the lack of damage. My fault perhaps - but it really feels like PD have almost hidden this key addition as something to be discovered by the player - which is kind of cool but probably not the best choice overall.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
I'm just surprised that people are surprised that reviewers do things like this. I'm not saying it's right, but it's been going on for a while. I've mentioned this a couple of other times, but FIFA 10 finally opened my eyes on all this. 9 and 10/10 across the board, but when you play the Manager Mode for more than an hour, you start to notice that it's a broken and unfinished game, that has some truly bizarre things going on in it. EA's official forums were full of complaints on the first weekend of it's release, yet not one single reviewer thought any of those problems was worth mentioning. The only logical conclusion is that they didn't mention them because they didn't play long enough to see them...

VGChartz
I can understand when reviewers spend a day or two playing some of the smaller more niche games. It's unrealistic to think they would spend 70-80 hours playing VC2 to finish but when one of biggest games of they year come then they should spend at least several days playing it.

can people stop complaining about the gran turismo reviews already. Especially this talk about proffesionalism and integrity for gaming websites. Do u think they really care about that? it's just about hits on there site they aren't breaking political scandals. How can u hold ign or gamespot to high standards

Yeah. Everyone still believes in the info of the OP.
Do you have the game yet and tried the damage for yourself yet, libellule? I'm gonna try to damage all my cars at level 1 when I'm getting GT5 next week.

So, all the people who complained about the lack of damage actually haven't unlocked it yet?
That's so ridiculously funny.
