Based on your story, it sounds like Darwinia failed because people didn't want to pay $15 for Darwinia. As you said, people didn't buy it until it was dirt cheap. Maybe it would have been a success from the get go say if it were... $5?

Anyhow, lets not pretend Indie developers haven't had success on XBLA. Some developers have actually been able to create games that appeal to the masses.

None of Introversion's PC games seemed to have bombed, and all of their PC games were also $15 or above at some point, and have been selling for years(their first game, Uplink, is still being sold 9 years after it's release).

Anyway, as I said, I don't believe the sales figures on Steam are so low.

Perhaps the budget has something to do with it. Uplink barely looks like a game.

A game that's 9 years old and still being sold isn't exactly a huge achievement. Countless games 9 years old and older are still being sold.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if those Steam numbers are accurate.

And Football Manager games look like spreadsheets. Good thing some people can look past the looks to notice what's most important.

Unless the method of estimation is told to us, I can't follow these figures. My guess is they're estimating from the nombuer of people playing on steam, but it is faulty because users playing offline aren't accounted for.

Well Football Manager has a lot more than menus. It has a 3D engine and little men playing soccer. But I think you've missed the point. Clearly Darwinia had a much bigger budget than Uplink.
