THe people posting and saying this is average are hilarious.

A.  You didnt click the HD link

B.  Need glasses.  Massively.

yea I know it's not the most impressive tech demo ever but it shows some new updates to unreal and the flowers in the start were beautifully done, the lighting is also very good, day/night transitions wasn't quite as natural as I would have like but still... It also should help to demonstrate to people that unreal engine can do more than bland grey war shooters and it's the devs and art direction that push games that way, I hear all the time how people hate unreal because it makes games grey which is just wrong lol. There are areas where the demo could improve and it was quite limited in scope plus the water running down stuff looked goofy.

Exactly this isn't the most amazing clip I've ever seen of a tech demo but it is still damn impressive.  To say this is average is absolutely ridiculous.  If a game released right now on the 360 that could handle this level of detail in larger environments at a good framrate it would easily be in contention for best graphics of the generation.  The poly count alone on this clip FAR exceeds what almost any game is pushing right now.  Then again its also a tech demo only so is allowed to push farther due to smaller areas of focus such as zero processing for things like AI.

well other than modded Crysis lol that game probably pulls ahead with draw distance, I guess the fact that this demo is running on a couple of GTX 480s and and i7 is what is putting people off. It kind makes me wish that Microsoft would finally put thier money where their mouth is when they say that they still support PC gaming and get Epic to release Gears 3 on PC so that it could look as good as this tech demo.

On a side note, It is pathetic how it only took 3 years to go from UE2 to UE3 (03, to 06) yet UE4 hasn't even been demoed yet. I blame the consoles with their astoundingly pisspoor hardware.

Cliff Bleszinski wasn't too pleased with Gears of War sales on the PC. I think Epic changed their focus on consoles because games sell better there. Blame the people who download games on PC's....

Next Unreal Engine will be released on next generation consoles.

Because Gears of War on PC was kind of shitty. By kind of i mean really, and by shitty, I mean pretty fucking terrible. Valve and Blizzard don't have problems making money off the PC, in fact Blizzard is the only reaosn why Activision hasnt been bankrupted so far probably.

Well I mean this is UE3, granted no console can handle it the way it was shown in the trailer here but many PCs will devour it with the ability to run another game on the side by this point in time.

You can tell straight off the bat it's the unreal engine. Everything is big and chunky, and has that sort of dull shiny look to it. It's probably the easiest engine to spot in it's current iteration, with so many horrible looking games using it, and so few finding beauty in the ugliness.

The vegetation looks fantastic, and the weather effects are superb. Once this goes into the hands of developers though, I predict a lot more games that look very similiar to each other, and very few that truly stand out, unless the tools have become much easier to use, or developers have a better understanding of the engine by this stage.

it looks like Gears Of War 3 with a bit more vegetation , nothing really impressive.

Scratch that, i think Gears 3 is better looking, even though they both use the same engine.

unreal engine never looked pretty, it always looked grainy and slimey.

You need to play Enslaved. The game looks gorgeous.

Until the occasional frame rate dips and graphic texture "pop in" i wonder if these guys are really using

the UR engine!

Pretty impressive, it didn't wow me like I thought it would. But, it looks pretty damn good.

Unreal Engine 3 is Epic's solution for this console generation, and (while UE4 is probably far into development) won't start pushing UE4 until GDC 2011 to sell it to developers working on next generation games.

It's less noticeable as being built with the Unreal Engine, which I guess is a step in the right direction!
