Forums - Sony Discussion - GT5 graphics aren't that impressive

I don't get it...  Some of these website don't know how to review a game...  Take JoyStick for example, they estated "If you're one of those car nuts I mentioned earlier, here's your game. Have fun, we'll see you in a year when you finally leave the house. If you're not in that group -- you like, even love racing games, but care less about tuning and more about the thrill of the race -- GT5 is like walking in on a group of physicists discussing string theory and asking who wants to go toss around a ball for a bit. You're looking to have fun; they're only interested in studying the math behind how it bounces."...   There is no need for such stupid comments...  Websites should review games based on what they are....  You can't fault a game for not playing like arcade style game when it's clearly not intended to be one!!!  If it has good or bad graphics, tell me..  If the cars handle like a toaster on wheels, tell me...  but you can't make a coment like that.... that's like saying,  for an RPGs  final fantasy is a great game,  but since this game doesn't play like a FPS then I'm going to give it 7 of of 10....

Thoughts??

Better then GT5p check.

Better then its competitiors check.

Iv yet to play on half the track, ill see if some are better then others.   But right now i see liitle to complain about, then again im judging form playing the game not going out of my way to find a fault.

Played Forza to death then have you?  I have played both and there is nothing in it, there really isnt.

Nothing what ?

From a racing perspective GT5 kills forza bud, though yes sure from a oh looks its pretty Forza is close to it.  To me Forza is for ricers types, GT is for automotive enthusiasts.

Its incredable that GT5 can make me feel simlar vibes that i feel when screwing around in my car in a empty wet parking lot.

arrogant much?

what makes you think I am not an automotive enthusiast... list the cars you've owned.. then I will list mine...

sensetive much.

Forza lovers love their big wings body kits and custom graphins, to Gt fans and automotive enthusiast that is useless and pointless.

You can own a Ferrari and rice it out.  Car you own means nothing, what you do with it means everything.

So now you are trying to generalize the term automotive enthusiast to mean just people who only care about the engine/gears/suspension/etc?

Poor thing.

The fact is, though, that GT5 was touted to be better than Forza 3 in graphics by a wide margin, which it simply isn't.  In fact it is downright uglier than Forza 3 in quite a few spots because at least Forza's level of graphics is pretty consistant throughout.  I'd rather have consistant quality over the quantity that GT5 has.

Other things, such as customization, damage, physics, sound, environments, are all better on Forza 3...  Quantity and the ability to look like real life was basically GT5's only trump card and it just didn't hold up to expectations it seems.

As a driving sim, however, it's touted as the best there is (which was really  it's main objective). Looking pretty and sounding the best should all be bonuses (which from what I gather, the sound problems are mainly tailored to the soundtrack). I admit Sony ran their mouths a bit too much and made some poor business decisions, but Forza 3 didn't have has many nitpickers and doesn't have the hype/legacy of Gran Turismo, thus GT will be scrutinized far more (think Halo vs Killzone).

Let's also remember that Forza 3 has far less going on, isn't in 1080p, and doesn't offer the same amount of content. I'd personally take the total meal over the appetizer if they are as comparable as Forza and GT are (and this isn't to slight it).

Yeah, I don't see how that could possibly be taken as a slight at all. /sarcasm

I hit level 50 in FM3 and have put at least 40 hours in it and have probably only done like 30% of the events. Deeming it an "appetizer" in any way is nothing short of ridiculous.

Of course you'd take anything that is even a tad against anything 360 as a way to attack it. You missed the point entirely.

The fact that it's on the 360 is irrelevant. I've played FM3 quite extensively and calling it that is an attempt to diminish what it is, especially considering it has more tracks, locations, and fully modelled cars than GT5 does. Now, go ahead and explain that comparison.

does forza3 have a track editor? /scratchs head

don't even know what you mean by fully modeled cars, you will need to explain that one.

GT5 has 200 'premium' cars, which have detailed car models, interiors, and the ability to modify the cars. The rest are 'standard' and have lower detail models (most of them being the same model as gt4), they lack interiors, damage and the ability to modify/upgrade them.

Sorry, Can I correct you there, you can upgrade the standard cars. The upgrades affect the performance of the car as well.

also, forza3 damage all look the same, so they are not real damage on a dynamic level anyways, lacking interiors sure, but do the cars look worse or have lesser poly count than the ones in froza3? what are the actual poly counts? you are comparing the 2 games after all. do you have those information?

ps: btw, the standard cars do have cockpit views. not sure how much they worked on that though or if they are generic, game didn't arrive yet.

ps2: or no interior lawl ^^

the graphics are fine the game looks great in motion and fantastic in the dark/rain... really the only complaint i have is that the game doesnt look like it took 5 years in development

Opinions, if only reviewers didn't have them....

He wasn't working on visuals this whole time. It's really apparent what he's been doing. There's so much content in this game it's not even funny.

THIS is the only reason I bought this game day 1, I've never been a Sim fan but this amount of content, it was too hard to ignore.

Have you tried the drift challenges yet?

I wanted to read the posts in this thread but since I haven't bought the game yet I am afraid I will run into some spoilers. Are there story spoilers in here or is it safe to read?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Not yet. I suck at GT (for the most part) so I'm getting the hang of it in Single Race.

Welcome to the club :D I hate sim racers but GT keeps me coming back for more. I'll consider it a victory if I can beat my 15% completion rate of GT4.

I haven't seen it, but from what I gather, your sentiments aren't followed throughout. I'll have the game here in an hour or so, so I can judge it then. But for now, even reviews (most of them at least) haven't had too many bad things to say about the visuals.

Btw, where are the screenshots?

And mentioning the PC shows a bit of the problem right there.

Forget sentiments, just look at the facts :

IGN RATINGS FOR GRAN TURISMO 5 (PS3)

GN RATINGS FOR GRAN TURISMO 5 (PS3)

RatingDescription
out of 10 Click here for ratings guide
7.0 Presentation
A cumbersome front-end and minimal, overlong loading screens hinder it, as do a series of other strange design choices.
9.0 Graphics
It's moments of sheer beauty ultimately outweigh the uglier ones, though sadly they don't quite outnumber them.
8.0 Sound
The visuals aren't met by the audio, and the engine notes lack grunt. The less said about the soundtrack the better.
9.0 Gameplay
For all its missteps in the single player mode it's still an unrivalled driving experience - and that's where it really counts.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
There's certainly not a paucity of content, and if any future patches can help streamline the online it could have serious legs.
8.5

Great

I do believe I put MOST not ALL. Reading comprehension didn't work here .

Can't you ever admit you're wrong ?

Early metascores are almost systematically better in the earlier reviews than in the following. Very few sites as IGN have the "balls" to be frank as soon as the embargo is lifted.

You've spent too much time on gaming websites not to know that, tss tss

Fail.
Sorry but you cannot complete and get all the cars in Gran Turismo 5 in under a week.
So it doesn't have anything to do with having "balls", it has to do with getting hits.

And early metascores are not better, this is just shit your making up.

Let's pick the last 10 multiplat games of 200X and compare the metascore evolution shall we ?

And let's bet each other's sig.

Despite popular belief I am a Sony supporter but I'm not a fanboy. The visuals in the game are a letdown on certain areas. On some parts you look at it and say wow but on others it looks like a PS2 game. Now I know why they only had the Night level with rain on display at the PS hub because that is breathtaking.

Still reguardless of what I said the game still is the best looking game I've played this year with Castlevania giving it some very strong competition. I know this message will get some hate but I'm only stating the truth. Other than that the games fun but the constant installs even after the 8GB install that took an hour to complete gets annoying as hell. Honestly if I was a reviewer I too would mark the game down because of the installs alone. Its no wonder the games not getting great reviews

A PS2 game? Really?

Honestly mate yeah. Yesterday a screenshot was posted in another thread and I laughed at it thinking it was just a fanboy trying to debunk GT5 until I raced that track earlier today. Saying it looks like a PS2 game is an over exageration but the graphics do drop at certain parts to a dull looking picture with loads of jagged edges.
