Forums - Sony - GT5 disappoints due to being “only a racing game”

What should it have been then?

Above: still the best game of the year.

I don't understand what the big deal is?  It's still being called the second best simulator of the generation.

People shouldn't be attacking it, and others shouldn't be getting defensive about it.

Play it and enjoy it.

Actually, many are calling it an unrivaled driving experience, (including IGN).

Sorry, I was simply talking about a cross-section of reviews and opinions as aggregated by Metacritic.

I am sure if we searched hard enough, we'd find reviews that called PURE or BLUR the best driving experiences of the generation.

I won't argue that GT5 has had some awful decisions regarding it, but come on. I'm talking about big sites, known sites that credit it that way. You show me one review calling either BLUR or PURE the best driving games and I'll concede. But right now, it sounds like your just trying to slight the title.

This is the defensiveness I am talking about.

All I said in my post was that GT5 is being acknowledged by most to be an amazing racer, just not the best this generation, and that is shouldn't be attacked.

Nor should anyone feel the need to defend what is clearly a great game.

Chill a bit mate.

The title isn't about whether to call it the best simulator or not. It's the unreasonable high expectations in which not only reviewers, but the majority of the people who approached GT5 early went with.

I've seen some ludricous complains like why aren't all the tracks unlocked for arcade right from the get go, when no GT game before has done that, and these kind of complains are coming from supposed long time GT fans, who knew what they were up for.

You're right in that there shouldn't be neither offensive nor defensive stances against it, in the end it's just a game, yet it's annoying when you go and try to have a decent conversation about a game (I'm talking mostly about GTplanet), and you get bombarded with replies constantly complaining and calling you delusional, just because you enjoy the game.

Thats obvious it should have been a FPS that is part of a series that relaeases yearly additions and it would sell millions and be called Gran of Duty or Call of Turisom

Sony fans: do you now see what Wii gamers have to put up with every damn month since 2007?

GT5 is probably the best driving game ever released, and people still complain. Reviewers are shit, period.

I understand what you mean, though my feelings for this piece are more directed to the fans, than the reviewers.

It's kinda of a similar situation to what happened to Metroid: Other M. To me, it's one of the best Metroids ever released and I loved it throughly, yet it got so much s*** both from the media and the fans, when most of it was uncalled for and untruthful.

Honestly... Did you guys NOT see this coming? Really? I knew this game would be butchered by reviews. Good thing I KNOW FOR A FACT that reviewers are the most biased of them all in this industry. Even compared to the worst forum troll.

Just like I said in the other thread, reviews is like a cancer in the industry right now. Some are going for hits, nitpicking on the slightest things and some sites are fueled by fanboyism ( such a shame ).

In short,

:P

Racing games are only racing games? NOWAI~!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Twisted Metal automatic 10/10?

Well, it has guns and other weapons, so it is kind of a FPS.  So, YES.  It has to be a lock for 10/10.  All it needs to have is the pretenses of having a story, and hire actors whose name your recognize, to do voices for the game.  Way to get it to have 11/10 is to have Nolan North do ALL the voices in the game... in his natural voice.
