i went to several parts of india 5 years ago and it was like impossible to buy a legit version of a ps2 game. looks like india is getting the hang of gaming.

sony are smart, they know with indias economy growth, a lot more people will be able to buy luxury products and which ever company will get there first will have a better reputation in the long run (unless they screw up badly)

I don't think ioi tracks India so these sales won't be in Week 1...

We'll never know what GT5 sold there till EMEAA shipments for it are disclosed....PD is awesome with this, they always have a page that gets updated every quarter with shipment for ALL their games....I don't know any other dev that does this.

Oh dear... these sales will count on VGC tracking next year.

Considering the fact that India has a population greater than the entire continent of North America, I'd say this is a smart move.

India do have a big population, but if only a big population = sales then India would be bigger than NA and the EU in gaming terms.

It's about the number of people in that country that can afford a console and games.

India is going to be a fresh hunting ground in the future (along with China) so Sony need to do a good job paving the way for these new but enormous markets.

I realize that even though the population is big, that it doesn't necessarily mean larger sales. I was saying that as a developing world it has massive untapped potential. 

That and even if the % attach rates in India were far less than anywhere else, it would still be capable of moving more software/hardware due to the fact that the population is so massive. Its an untapped resource, and a smart move by Sony to explore it.
