Forums - Gaming - Call of duty wont Last because

As mentioned before, I dont think COD wont last long because of not having a face, but because I feel it will go the guitar hero route with all the milking.

We´ll have to see how black ops legs though, but I do know for sure is that great critical reception is going down. Most reviewers are saying it´s starting to get a little old.

It's definately being milked, and eventually sales will suffer. This has basically meant they've been gradually going downhill since CoD4. People say it'll last because they bring in changes to the setting, the MP aspects etc. But let's face it, the game mechanics and level designs haven't changed significantly since moving out of World War 2 and that has more to do with the new weaponry available forcing different playstyles and levels than the setting change.

At the end of the day, the core gameplay (which is the most important factor) remains the same with every iteration. The comparison with sports games is also false, because sports games have updated rosters which is why people buy them, even if they're the same game. Even then, without some innovation, sales do dwindle. They can't keep bringing out the same game with new coats of paint. Eventually they'll have to innovate and that is difficult when a new game is being released every year.

I actully read the title and thought it would be some rant about why COD isnt good, etc. but the OP does raise some interesting questions. people dont play COD for the characters, story, etc. they play it online, so imo its logical to assume that eventually someone else will come along and do it better.

however, imo its difficult to assume this because certain games have remained for decades, Mario being the obvious one.

but imo, based partly on what Scobes said as well, every COD game features the same online mode, like deathmatch, etc nothing is changed. the formula is the same. theres a 6 hour campaign, then as much online as you want. but can this last, imo it will last like other franchises have lasted, but some other game could come along and do it better, like Medal of Honor.

however the other thing is that some gamers will buy COD every year.

People hate on COD because of the underserving sales. Sure it's a great game. It may even be the best FPS of this gen. I won't argue against that. People hate on it because:

  • It sales about 10 times as much as other FPS when most feels its nowhere near 10 times as great.
  • It releases everywhere year with little innovation and still outsells the previous title.
  • It takes away sales from smaller games. No one likes a bully
  • JEALOUSY
The hate is understandable. They're good games though.

I made the shorter version of your post

Yeah, i try to be articulate with what i say, since i've made some people upset in the past. yeah i say imo a lot tbh because sometimes if you dont someone will come along and make it sound like your stating a fact, and then you'll get into an annoying argument with them over nothing really. tbh, that will happen even if you do say imo, because some people do like to argue.

i suppose thats part of the fun of being online...

Edit: if you liked my post, you should stick around a bit longer, add some games on your list, make some friends, and comment on some threads you like. it can be a lot of fun when you get going man.

What? WaW was a year after MW. The CoD brand had only just built up to the monster we now know it is (basically, it still felt fresh when WaW was released). The point stands that if they can't innovate within the series which is difficult with yearly iterations, then the franchise will dwindle in popularity. This is especially true if they don't innovate but the competition does.

I hope not, I love COD
