Forums - Gaming - Call of duty wont Last because

Well I think Activision isn't doing the right thing for gamers but for their pocket books they sure are. WWII was done to death and sales began sinking, so Activision went Modern WarFare, that will last a few years and then what? Then if their lucky they can go into future warfare. As long as they keep the quality level at its current levels then they should be okay.

As for a face, lol Bubsy had a face. So have dozens of other IP's that all went under. You don't need a face all you need is a name. Call of Duty is a brand like Nike for example, the brand name alone will sell the software. Now if Activision gets sloppy and allows the quality of the titles to drop then that brand will loose its value.

As for it being Guitar Hero. Not a chance, their are two major reasons Guitar Hero failed. First was the gameplay it was identacle in every game. You have to hit the right coloured buttons in perfect sequence to the coloured buttons seen on screen. All the while having a CG band play to the song in the back ground. Other then tracks what exactly changed from game to game? Call Of Duty changes every game, sure the controls are the same but every game is based in a different battle or war with new characters to play as new plot line and new content. Not in any way like the repetitive content found in Guitar Hero. Second reason Guitar Hero failed is the genre just failed to hold an audience, music games in general were some what of a fad and the market got over crowded. However analysts say FPS will continue to be very popular for another 2-3 generations. Meaning as long as CoD remains a great FPS franchise then it will continue to sell.

Then the comparison to Tony Hawk. Well Skate Boarding was really popular in the late 90's early millenium. So was Tony Hawk he was the best the sport had to offer at the time. However years down the line Tony Hawk was no longer the best and SkateBoarding became less popular. I don't think it can be attributed completely to milking the franchise. A perfect example is looking at Skate and ShawnWhite:Skateboarding both titles failed to garner as much sales as most early Tony Hawk games, but newer Tony Hawk games came close to the same sales. Indicating the sport genre (Skateboarding) is on its way out. it was a fad

I think that CoD can be milked to an extent without Activision killing the IP. One game a year is possible look at Madden or any other sports title. As long as war simulaters (FPS) sell the CoD should sell as well.

Captain Price!!! Everyone loves him in the Modern Warfare series

But anyway, they keep on making great games, even if they are same-ish, and people will keep on buying them, because CoD games are still very good

I agree with this post. COD is one of the best fps series of all time,I just don't understand the let's hate something, just because it's popular kind of thinking. I understand if someone legitamely hates the game, but don't hate it,just because it's the cool thing to do.

I don't hate the game at all, quite the opposite. I really like the COD series and I don't want to see it be overmiliked to the point where the games become increasingly bland and decrease in quality becuase they are cranking them out every single year, similar to what happen to the Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero/Rockband games.

People hate on COD because of the underserving sales. Sure it's a great game. It may even be the best FPS of this gen. I won't argue against that. People hate on it because:

  • It sales about 10 times as much as other FPS when most feels its nowhere near 10 times as great.
  • It takes away sales from smaller games. No one likes a bully
  • It releases everywhere year with little innovation and still outsells the previous title.
The hate is understandable. They're good games though.

I seriously want Activision to do bankrupt.

Those guys can't innovate, they just stick to a successful formula and milk it till it crashes, instead of cycling for 2 or 3 years the same franchises.

Activision have done what most publishers wish they could do, they've changed the face of the  industry 4 times. Pitfall, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero and Call of Duty have all had such a resounding impact on the industry and it's mainly because Activion have been willing to take risks and innovate.

I don't like Activisions business methods at all, but to to say they can't innovate is just ridiculous. They've released so many ground breaking games in their lifetime that they could easily be placed on the top tier along with Nintendo, Sony, Capcom, Sqaure Enix and Microsoft.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Who cares about Soap?Who teh hell cares about the story?Everyone is buying the games for the multiplayer!

Uhm it actually means the exact opposite. Since they're is no ''face'' to connect to the franchise, it actually means there's not something that risks getting old. A franchise name is it's strongest selling point, for example take Gran Turismo that doesn't have a ''face'' either.

I love the CoD franchise. I won't lose any sleep over it when it does end but I'm gonna enjoy it while it's here.... and on the Wii :b

i totally agree with you that cod will not last, its being milked imo, i just sold my black ops earlier on because im getting bored of the franchise :(
