Yep...this generation has gotten old to me. There's no innovation to be had anymore. I'm from the old school, and I think my 5 year, internal clock has struck. We need a new generation imo. Everything's sort of gone stale.

I'll probably buy The Last Story, and then be done until the new consoles come out.

well the new generation wont come until 2012 with the possible Super Wii but even that isn't that much of an innovative leap in technology  and SONY said they wouldn't really release an new console till 2015 and with Microsoft investing 500 million in marketing for the kinect and countless more for the kinect we wont see an new box from them until around 2013-2015 region.

So you have an long wait. but its been that the end of the gen is always the best and we have around 2-5 years to go so the best is yet to come. But the fact that gens are lasting Longer then ever may be problem for gamers.

"2015?" Really? I hadn't read anything definitive. Just a lot of statements suggesting both MS and SCE wanted to prolong this generation for as long as humanly possible.

That "Ten Year Plan" of SCE's that everyone not belonging to the SDF scoffed at is now looking like reality.

I agree that some of the best games in terms of polish should be yet to come, but the real question is who will be there to keep the soft sales numbers up? New users or the die hards who have already been playing for the past four or so years?

As far as hardware updates go, if that matters so much to some, those people may shift back to PCs so they can spend as much as they want as often as they want on keeping the most up to date hardware.

With any luck the next gen of consoles will be a little bit more than just "faster GPU, faster CPU/more cores, more RAM/VRAM" otherwise the only thing worth buying the next gen of consoles for will be the first party exclusives and occasional third party exclusive.

In the meantime, SCE and MS need to ratchet up the online services and further integrate their consoles into the home media center to make them something indespensible even if you aren't buying the most recent $60 retail game.

I agree with all of what I bolded. If power is all that is yet to come, I'd rather just go back to PC gaming (like I was back in earlier school days). Less expensive, quicker, and more efficient that way. Chances are though that I probably wouldn't be gaming anymore for a while, but if I were to, PC would be the way to turn (Left 4 Dead and Assassin's Creed are released on it, afterall). The only temptation for me would likely be Nintendo consoles for the sake of first party titles such as Mario and Zelda.

No, I don't have a limit for any sytem, e.g. I 've already bought more than 90 DS games and plan to at least get Golden Sun, Ghost Trick, Okamiden, Lufia and (provided they make it to the west) Ninokuni, Dragon Quest VI, Inazuma Eleven.

W-what!? I can't even comprehend that..are you kidding? I don't think I even have half of that between my Wii, 360 and DS combined.

Yeah, Minecraft has left me little reason to purchase any other games for awhile, as it takes up 90% of my gaming time. I just bought COD: Black Ops with a $20 back deal at amazon and will probably buy Donkey Kong Country, but aside from that I think I'm done buying games for a long time, at least for the rest of the year. I will just wait for chirstmas to get the other games I want.

I don't really understand. Do you have time for the games and don't want to play them? Or go you not have time and can't play them? Either way, you are the only one that can control what you buy and not buy when it comes to games. Just think about how much time you have on your hands and if you are going to play the game or not. BTW, you need to play infamous.

The 10 year plan doesn't mean anything except that Sony will still be selling meager amounts of its systems after years six and seven while other consoles may fall by then. Look at PSP - the system is getting replaced in 2011 by all accounts, and PSP is already pretty dead and its only seven in the West. The hardware companies tend to release new systems when software revenue for their system dries up. Past a certain point it doesnt matter how big your base is, since it isn't buying games anymore. PS2 has the biggest hardware base of all time, and its completely irrelevant as a market to most publishers, except for Sony, Konami, Activision and EA which can still make a bit of cash on sports games and liscenced games. The irrelevance simply comes from the fact that most people moved on during 2005 to 2008, when the "current systems" went from a base of 0m to 100m units or whatever.

Its not like other companies didn't accomplish that - NES still had games chart in Japan semi-regularly as late as 1991, in its 9th year.  NES was still selling in the west in 1993 and 1994 at somewhat respectable numbers.

I also don't think people really reach a limit. Some genres are exceptionally resilient on a given platform because thats where fans concentrate. Its going to be years before something replaces Wii as a powerhouse for platformers, X360/PS3 as a powerhouse for shooters, etc, etc.

I don't think I have ever had an end to buying games in any given generation. Well not entirely true usually the last year a console is on the market their aren't many games to buy and I'm saving up for the next gen system. But to be honest as long as I have money or credit I just keep buying games.

Have I reached the point where I don't really need new games? Yes I have plenty of unfinished titles. But the new games look so amazing I'm stuck in a vortex. As for ditching MS and Sony and sticking with just Nintendo. I was a Nintendo only guy since the NES, I sure didn't spend nearly as much money and usually finished my games. Then Nintendo pretty much told Wii owners to buy 360's by saying they weren't competing anymore so I went out and bought a 360. I have bought more games this gen then any gen before.

With constant new hardware platforms coming out over the next few years (3DS, Wii2, Nex-Box) I don't think I'll have a period where I stop buying games like I used too!

I have all 3 systems and find myself playing games less and less. I tend to play my PS3 95% of the time and my other 2 systems just sit there most of the time, but I do play them for specific games. xbox360-for halo and gears and wii -for nintendo games. With the exception of the 3DS,I'm just going to sit next-gen out,so that's the only reason I'm going to keep all 3 of my systems of now.

I bought my Ps3, than 360, than Wii. The PS3 and 360 were supplying me with more games than I can afford nor care to play. The Wii has always been the weakest link of the trio for me as it had games I would like, but there would always be a better looking HD game to buy instead. So enough was enough I don't need all three systems and Nintendo didn't make the cut so I fired Nintendo. I had good times with mario kart and my sick step mom gets to play Wii fit now, she needs it. So its a good thing for all.

My Wii has been in the same position and state for over a year now... Untouched...

I can't help it when

A) All my favourite genres and series can be found on the PS3.

B) All the games I want are coming to the PS3.

C) When I have a lot of real life friends with PS3s and play together online.

And no I don't have a limit but I do no have the time to play all the ones I want to.

Otherwise I would've owned Castlevania, Vanquish, Split Second, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit by now.
