Forums - Sales - Why is Xbox so Strong in Americas ?

It was def. the price. People didn't want to buy a blue-ray machine for no reason when they can buy a cheaper 360 with Online gaming. Plus, like the RPG genre is popular in Japan. Shooters truly dominate America.

Because its an American company. Same reason Japanese buy Sony and Nintendo products but not Microsoft.

But don't americans buy Wiis and PS3s as well?

Yeah but not as many.

well from vgchartz the america's have bought more wii's so maybe its just a sony thing than?

I don't know I was just making a theory. Americans are pretty patriotic and usually buy American things instead of foreign things. I think the Wii was an exception because it was the must have console for the last couple years.

Is that why Toyota is the best selling car manufacturer in the US?

I think the US is probably the best example of free market capitalism, no one gives a shit where the product comes from as long as it's good value.

What are you talking about Toyota's image was pretty damaged in the U.S. It is not first or second best selling car company in the US. GM and FORD are both out selling it. Ford has been on a roll it is now the most profitable car company in the world.

Frat Boys

Lots of them.

To them their world revolves around CoD, Halo, and Madden.

the xbox 360 came out first. If your friends have an xbox and u want to play with them, why would u want a ps3?

because I'm a leader and not a follower, I simply have to convert those assholes to get a PS3 or just make new friends, not to mention I will always have my sweet, sweet PC <3

hahaha good luck with make them getting an inferior plataform to play online games as Cod and Halo.

And bad ports.

My friends and I don't general play shooters on consoles though o_O; and other online games are about the same w/PS3 having more interesting exclusives to my taste at this point in 2010 whereas the 360 caught my eye more for the first 3 years after it's release. The only major exception I made was with Halo series and UC2, funny thing is I don't really miss Halo at all and nor do my friends at this point. CoD has turned into pretty much trash for online play on PC anyways, no reason to even touch it since console-fied FPS are inferior to start with on PC, not to mention consoles are inferior online platforms anyways, it's junk (360 w/sub) or crap (PS3 free) to worst (Wii free.) There is no longer exclusivity with Bungie and it's only a matter of time before CoD runs into the ground at this point. Only really bad port I ever got was Saint's Row 2 on PC LOL, fucking THQ pieces of shit, otherwise they all run and look better with multiple control options!

Guess people didn't know about the mass recalls in the past 2 years =P

The XBox brand is strongest in America because its by an American company as well as a highly recognized one.

As for your prediction about next Gen I disagree completely...before this Gen the Playstation brand was very strong in America but seems to have faded because of the XBox brand. With that said while the Playstation brand slowed in America the DS and Wii brands gained huge popularity in America and just like how the 3DS has the name DS in it I expect Nintendo's next console to have the name Wii contained in it.

I personally think that the P.S brand faded here because the 360 and PS3 are so similar and the 360 is made in America so people pick the 360 over the PS3 here.

Anyway, nobody knows what next Gen has in store for all consoles though I expect Nintendo to stay fairly popular next Gen in the same way that PS2 was successful partly due to the PS1.

The PlayStation brand has weakened in America because of Sony, not really because of the Xbox brand. A $299 launch PS3 would have continued Sony's dominance here, no doubt about it.

Really, it was Sony's blunders and Microsoft's marketing and aggressive stance that have helped up the brand here. Next gen is anybody's game, that's a true victory for Microsoft (and Nintendo too).

I don't think that the 360 was that much cheaper was it? I do agree though that the price point of PS3 hurt the PS brand a lot this Gen in America. I don't understand why everybody says that the XBox brand is so strong in America because last time I checked PS2 and Wii both outsold the XBox and 360 by a good amount.

The 360's launch prices were $399 and $299. PS3 were $599 and $499.

If I remember correctly, the 360 launch prices were $499 and $399, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm just going off what I've read, sorry if my links are wrong/outdated.

Halo, Gears, Left 4 Dead, are all big in America. COD plays better on XBOX. COD is better on Xbox.

XBOX got off to a great start with Gears, Halo, COD (better on XBOX), AC(better on XBOX) Mass Effect, Perfect Dark, Bioshock, Project Gotham, etc. Not to mention it was cheaper. Then in 2008, I think GTAIV sealed the deal by not only being released on XBOX, but also being better on XBOX. Then later that year Gears 2, Fable 2, L4D all released on XBOX and were all big in America. And the online was better. And it had a one year head start. And it was cheaper.

Ps3 still has yet to get one exclusive game to reach 2mil in NA besides MGS4 which was bundled. Hopefully that changes in 2011.

I still think that there will be a time where PS3 sells on par with 360 on a weekly basis. It depends on Sony's marketing IMO.

Not to mention that $499 sku was discontinued shortly after christmas as it did too much loss per unit.

Nope. I bought the Pro at launch, it was $399. It's never been higher than that in the States.

It's true, Elite was 479 US$ but it was launched later.
