Forums - General - IPad 2 is a Comin'

This is pathetic and exactly why I don't buy Apple. It will have only been a year since the first I-Pad hit shelves and they are launching another one? I know every rich kid on the block is going to want one heck it even sounds cool to me. But the last one just came out. I know alot of Apple fans who bought the first one will go out and buy the new one, bringing sales higher and higher.

But is it a good investment for the average Canadian or American or European? Its an over sized I-Phone from what I've experianced. I remember seeing a tablet laptop by Acer a few years ago. The keyboard could slip out or you could use the touch screen. Sure the thing cost 1,200$ but it was sure alot more value then this over priced over sized phone.

Personally I'm looking at what Microsoft's going to put out with Windows 7, or the new Google pad. But I'm going to stay far away from the I-Pad. I don't have money to constantly upgrade every year!

Definitely going to cut in on 3DS sales for the 2nd month. People may say "they do different things for different markets!" Thinking narrowly will lead one to the conclusion of 3DS = games; iPad 2 = apps. You have to think about it more interconnectedly. The iPad may not be a game first platform, but as has already been shown with Street Fighter 4, the potential for higher quality gaming on a bigger screen is there. Coupled with all the workplace apps and the same quality Internet as on a laptop or desktop, then it is really easy to see how much of a threat these devices are to Nintendo's hand-held dominance.

If the option is between a $400 tablet computer and a $250 3DS, then I would take the tablet computer because of multi-functionality, quality Internet surfing with less eye strain, and the future potential of the tablet computer. If you have the money for the 3DS, you have the money for the iPad 2.

Whether its windows 7, android or iOS...I am still confused what this things are for.

On the go? Iphone, Win 7 phone or Android phone are more than capable of giving you excellent mobile surfing or media capabilities.

At home? Laptops or desktops are much more capable devices for pretty much any task.

Exactly. I don't get those who buy a Smartphone, iPad, laptop, stationary PC and multifunction MP3 player like iPod Touch. Shit overlaps with tasks and connectivity, half of it is completely redundant.

Doesn't really surprise me..

that will almost assuredly be replaced by that slick-as-hell Macbook Air within 24 months or whenever I decide the MBP is too slow for my needs

1. I hope you don't buy TVs because they come out with new models every year. Obviously a revision addresses many of the reasons why someone may not have got one first time around and also allows them to use better components because people want cameras and a bit more performance given the limitiations on both.

2. I've put an iTouch next to an iPad to check the difference. There is a huge difference in size. It is like you're working on a 13" laptop and then switch to 3x 30" monitors for your desktop. Is it a good investment? Given the fact that most people buy a $500 laptop to surf the web, send emails and go on Facebook and it does it just as well as a laptop if you consider the conflicting pros/cons then sure its worth the money. People don't buy specs they buy what the thing does for them.

3. They'll come out with new models every 6-12 months as well. However if you buy a Google tablet you'll be just like the guy who bought an Xbox last generation, you won't get all the software support.

I mean that by the time I'm ready to upgrade, my C2D-powered MBP will be outdated and even the Air will have faster chips in them. As it stands now, my MBP is a little over a year old and only has a 2.26 C2D in it. It's still good for at least a year, maybe two.

My stance hasn't changed, no USB storage, no buy, period.

old people that can't see shit and don't want to carry big ass laptops. They can easily zoom in with multi touch vs keyboard mouse, easier and faster in the long run, but like I said, for old people that can't see shit.

I honestly don't get these tablets' appeal. I just don't get it.

Im with you really. They look like pretty cool gadgets but for all the mobile-based stuff I have my mobile, for all the office-based stuff I have my laptop, and for the random gaming stuff they keep showing off, well mostly on the same standard as Xbox Live Arcade so Ill stick to my 360 thanks.
