Forums - Sales - EG Article on Kinect impact (or lack of) on competitors in UK

I appreciate your explanation and quick response.  I don't want to derail this thread so I'll PM you to try to clarify my concerns regarding your original post.  That is if I can get the damned Send Message button to work - technology and I are not the best of friends at the moment it would seem...

It's pretty laid back here and he kind of did explain himself quoting my post, no need for all the drama!!!

Gee's its only been a week. Same week COD launched on PS3 and Wii coming off the back of new bundles and a red console. Far far too early to tell anything.

Indeed... pretty stupid article IMO

How does that add to the debate?  As an administrator and moderator of the site other users look to you to demonstrate what is, and is not, acceptable.  You may not realise it but you have a responsibility to set an example in the way you conduct yourself on these forums.

OT:  While I agree it is early days it will be interesting to see the effects of each system's motion control efforts.  Will they simply cancel each other out (in terms of HD market share)? If so, will it be the case in all markets or will we see Xbox strengthen further in NA and PS3 strengthen in Japan/Europe?  It's going to be a fascinating few months.

Huh? I agreed with the post I quoted. For a fuller analysis:

- UK sales of PS3 and Wii were not impacted by the recent surge in Xbox 360 sales - why should they be?
- neither PS3 or Wii registered a noticeable slump - it is the holidays - sales should be increasing 15% week on week
- Wii outsold Xbox 360 in the week preceding Kinect's launch - Red Wii launch - what difference does this make to anything?
- both Wii and PS3 posted numbers consistent with their previous weeks' totals - same point again - it is the holidays and why would anybody expect them to go down? Ps3 and 360 sales didn't decrease in the last 2 weeks when Wii increased? Wii actually went down slightly but that was due to the high week previous due to the red wii bundle's first full week
- weekly sales of all three major home console formats rose considerably in the period leading up to Kinect's launch - christmas
- Nintendo DS has been the best-selling console in the UK over the past five weeks - so?

Black Ops just released as well so you'd reasonably expect sales of PS3 and 360 to increase - it isn't even clear that the rise was due to Kinect (in actual fact it was mainly due to Black Ops)

Overall, a pointelss and rather stupid article that tries to assert something but totally misses the other reasons why sales are going up / down. Nobody expected PS3 and Wii sales to suddenly decrease in the lead up to Christmas due to the Kinect launch? Maybe look at trends in 2-3 months time if you want to analyse the effect of the Kinect launch.

I agree with alot of that except the "in fact it was mainly due to Black Ops".  Xbox jumped over 100K WoW and PS3 jumped over 40K.  If it was just Black Ops those numbers would be far closer.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I think we will have to wait until after the holiday's to really see what kind of lasting af Kinect will have, on X360 itself and on it's competitors.

I'd estimate that more than 50% of the boost was down to Black Ops. PS3 is still "coming down" of the boost from Move sales so this slightly offsets the increase due to Black Ops.

Thats not mainly.
