This is obviously fake. It may even work on a current prototype 3DS, but the device isn't even finalized which means Nintendo can change it much easier than they can with a firmware update on an already released product. Even a change that will prevent every legitimate game in existence from working can be done at this point, since no legitimate cards are in the wild.

At absolute best, this means DS games on a 3DS.

Awsome! 3DS games are impossible to find so there's no other way atm!

I have a feeling that 3DS flash cards won't be popular. If Nintendo is going to force updates on the end-user as rumored (even with the 3DS turned off apparently), it's going to be a pain in the ass for modders. Whenever Nintendo comes out with new official firmware, the mod users will usually avoid installing Nintendo's new firmware until the modders tweak their mod so that it is compatible with Nintendo's latest firmware. But if modders no longer have the option of declining a Nintendo update, they're fucked until the modders release a new version of their mod.

Just look at the PS Jailbreak situation. The modders still haven't made that compatible with the latest official PS3 firmware I believe. And better yet look at the PSP-3000 situation. If your official PSP firmware is above v5.01, you can not load isos off your PSP-3000. You can however homebrew enable ANY PSP (even PSP-3000 and PSPgo with v6.31 firmware) with the right methods. But it's not homebrew that is a threat to the PSP, it's the iso loading. So mission accomplished for Sony on the PSP front (as of late). There is plenty of PSP piracy among those with older PSPs with old firmware but Sony can't do anything more than they already are to prevent piracy on older hardware.

Personally I think there is a place for homebrew. It is in Nintendo and Sony's interest to block DS Rom/psp iso loading apps and certain homebrew apps (ie. allowing a SNES emulator on their 3DS would indirectly cut into Virtual Console sales of SNES games). However the harmless homebrew apps (ie. xvid/divx players) bring a lot of value to the PSP and DS. Plenty of PSP-3000 users with updated firmware love using homebrew even though they can't take advantage of ISO loading.

doubt it will be a problem.  if updates break the mod then the first thing they mod is nintendo's ability to update remotely.  frankly, you can't stop pirates.

Games can be released that require the update or have the update built in.  If built into the game code itself, that's incredibly hard to remove before publishing on torrent sites.  Better still, the games can be designed so that they won't run if the remote update feature is disabled.

What if game chips have circuitry in them that allows the 3DS to recognize it as a 3DS cartridge?  A standard flash chip won't have that circuitry and ebcause Nintendo can buy chips in bulk, it will cost far less for them to ship games with a built in circuit than it would cost for these 3rd party flash chip vendors who won't even have acess to buying the same security chips.

They will force updates form what I herd.

Hell Sony said I did not have ot update my PS3 if I wanted to use LInux onmy PS3 still. But guess what my BluRay functionality stopped working and said I needed to updated or fuck off.

So as you can see I had no choice lol.

They can't...that's just the thing.

This is nothing more than a DS R4 like chip being marketed early for 3DS due to backwards compatibility.    They're just hoping to get your money via slippery marketing for a product that will never work

DS flash card with the 3DS name on the box.
