'Bland' Gran Turismo, Forza graphics avoided by NFS: Shift 2 - dev

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=276019

Shift 2: Unleashed producer Marcus Nilsson has said that EA's upcoming Need For Speed sequel won't match Forza's 60 frames per second performance, but indicated it will be a far more vibrant game as a result.

In an interview with Official Xbox 360 Magazine, Nilsson was asked if the development team was chasing Forza's 60 FPS performance.

He replied by saying that he believed developers made a choice between bland graphics, pointing to Forza and Gran Turismo as examples, or pushing consoles whilst taking a slight performance hit.

"You have to make a choice with today's tech. Either you go for - and this is harsh but it's what I think - the bland graphics of GT and Forza, or you try to push the bar for what consoles can do," said Nilsson.

"That's what Slightly Mad is doing, and hence the decision was made to aim for 30 frames," he added.

Yeah, of course.  Because pushing 60 frames per second at 1080p with the kind of realism that GT 5 is prividing is CLEARLY not pushing the bar for what current consoles can do. What a moron. ¬_¬

Or go PC and get the best of both world.

normally I don't agree. But I agree with you. Except Gran Turismo is not on PC... well GT3 is with emulators. >_>

Kay. I think I'll stick with my bland graphics.

OT... i go for performance... anyways, 60FPS is much more fun and easier on the eyes.for me atleast

their going to push the ps3 to the limit?

i really hope their not lying........that would mean 1080p at 60fps like GT is doing.

shouldnt be too difficult unless it looks better than gran turismo 5 which i REALLY doubt.

it would be an achievement considering how many sub HD games are made now days.

ok dont take all of that seriously, im just illustrating how impossible their targets are.

For a game that is quite important to have high FPS, I'd not sacrifice fps for eye candy.

For console, is it hard to rig a tripple screens?

So, NFS: Shift 2 is being optimized for PC? Either that, or he's talking out of his ass.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

You can't go around posting pictures and gifs of real life cars and try to pass it off as GT5! :O

Anyway I think he's trying to say bland in the sense that Forza and GT go for looking like real life, real life is normal and that is the definition of bland, so maybe he's trying to say he wants more style and to go beyond normal.  But even if he is meaning that its a poor choice of words, though I don't think they have to do much to look better than Forza since the original Shift looks better than Forza 3 did.
