Forums - Nintendo - Goldeneye Wii a success says Nintendo.

How can anyone bring up first week sales for COD in EMAA? The pre-orders in Americas alone trumped first week sales of any other COD game on Wii, add to that sales grew from there.

Well... comparing to another Activision shooter, I would not call that a success. But I guess it being exclusive to Nintendo platform makes it a success. At least in Nintendo's eyes, not so sure about Activision.

Uhh... well. :D

I guess it is a success! :D I don't get why they even bother to make a wii version of the game. 20k sales first week, compared to 1,7m on hd consoles. Seems like waste of time to me.

World at War and Modern Warfare sold around that area first week and both went on to sell over a million. Sure it's not as much as the HD versions, but I wouldn't call it a waste of time.

Of course core games not made by Nintendo can sell well on Wii if they have a strong brand.  Look at RE4.  Even the COD games have done ok even though the publisher doesn't spend any time or money pushing them and they aren't exactly the best games around.

Indeed it is.

@palancas7  you could say the same for Xbox since PS2 both raped them. All the FPS were actually better on GC than PS2 because of the added horsepower. THe PS2 was just to much of a beast for the other guys but that doesnt take away the respectable library the GC had. whay were you getting at anyway??? Are you suggesting that they just stop making FPSs on Wii period????

@lordtheknight  i think we will see a new console in 2 years. i really dont think that 3rd parties are going to ramp up FPS support.

Pretty low standards from a company which called Wii Music a failure.

Quickly, declare it domed before someone else does it and takes credit for being first.

No no no.

Wii is flat.

PS3 is domed.

@ Other quoters I would respond but I feel bad having 2 or more posts in a row. Especially if it isn't 100% on topic.

Yes.  It seems a bit low to be such a success.  Why do sales figure standards go down so much with Wii?  I understand their cheaper, but why does that impact the final expected numbers?  Not money wise, but penetration wise.  Hmm

Because people get used to it. Its like with the PS3 and Xbox 360, people get used to a certain level of sales and that raises expectations. With Wii 3rd party games we're used to seeing them struggle up to 500,000 or 1,000,000 so our expectations of what a Wii game can do are lowered which means it doesn't take much to meet them. Though to be honest the whole 'I expected X and got Y' phenom going on with sales and the lack of objectivity isn't limited to the Wii.

@ Squilliam

Include Wii third party games because the last time i checked the wii had the highest selling games and if you ask me call of duty should be doing alot better than what it is, Mario kart is pushing 23 million pretty good for a console filled with "soccer moms" that buy more games than 360 owners. The 360 and ps3 both lack a single 15 million seller so who's the one with lower expectations again. Why do people leave out nintendo games as if they aren't games, i guess because Halo and GT can't crack 15 million Mario shouldn't count.

good for Goldeneye, still have to pick it up myself

Because open weeks have yet to mean shit when it comes to Wii games?  40k first week games on Wii end up going on to sell 1m, 40k first week sales on 360 and PS3 end up putting a developer out of business

I ended up giving you the data you needed in the other thread, now you're still questioning even though Nintendo backed up what I told you, what more do you want or need?
