Because people get used to it. Its like with the PS3 and Xbox 360, people get used to a certain level of sales and that raises expectations. With Wii 3rd party games we're used to seeing them struggle up to 500,000 or 1,000,000 so our expectations of what a Wii game can do are lowered which means it doesn't take much to meet them. Though to be honest the whole 'I expected X and got Y' phenom going on with sales and the lack of objectivity isn't limited to the Wii.
