Forums - General - West Potomac High School, taking F off the grade books

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/13/AR2010111304100.html?wprss=rss_world&sid=ST2010111400180

I understand what they are trying to do but it seems these students will be less prepared then students who handled the pressure to get good grades.

It also allows the few average to bad teachers to get away with doing a bad job.

When students reach the so called real world they will be in shock as employers are not going to give them extra time if they do a bad job.

I didn't avoid summer school in 1975, and we were constantly harassed by guidance counselors as to our intentions to go to college.

An I for incomplete instead of a F? and a chance to complete your work?

Damn... which that would work in the real world.. instead you get fired..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

lol, what is the point of school in america anymore? Isn't it just a meaty version of facebook by now? Just a social network with some annoying periods where old people tell you to be quiet for a little bit?

The US education system is getting worse, other countries are beginning to greatly outpace us so what's the solution? Well....let's try and take some pressure off the kids to try so hard, I mean, really the problem is they must be too stressed out, and sometimes sitting for four hours posting updates on your facebook page and chatting is the only way to chill out, so just let them take their time and do the work when they can get around to it.

I understand the mentality "Well it's important that they learn the work, what's the point of giving them an F and moving on?", but you can still learn the material after you get an "F" if you really wanted to. Plus it just gives less incentive for hard working students. What's the difference between a hard working student that studies, and takes in the material and one that decides he'd rather put in a bit more call of duty because learning is hard? About a month. But that's not how it works in the real world, and it gives the "slower learners" an unfair advantage in a competitive landscape.

This is just a stupid idea.

So, it's just like the game reviews. 7 out of 10 is the bottom.

well, when these kids get out of school it wil be survival of the fittest...

Sounds like a bloody stupid idea to me!

This is a stupid idea. Kids should get what they EARN. They need to put forth the effort. Man the U.S. is going to hell.
