Forums - Sony - Febuary 2007-November 2010 RIP My 60GB PS3

I was playing 2K11 last night and the game froze and then the console shut down. I had been playing for about 8hrs straight so I said to myself "God is telling me to go to bed" so I went to bed. Woke up this morning and the red PS3 light was flashing...Tried turning it on and the YLOD happened. I wouldn't be so mad if I knew  that Sony would replace my 60GB with another 60GB, but I doubt it for some reason.

Can't say Im too surprised at this, looking back I've logged a ton of hours on my PS3. I remember during Persona 4, I played the game for like 20hrs straight O_o, and those were the type of nights I logged into my PS3 when I was hooked on a game. I'll wait for another 3 hours before I call (System was plugged in all night flashing) and try again but I'll either hunt down another 60GB or see what Sony has in store for me.

RIP My PS3.

Ironically enough, my Xbox 360 is still alive and kicking LOL

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."

NB: I just saw this quotation and it was so awesome that I had to use it somewhere (it's from Romeo and Juliet, quoted by Bobby Kennedy at JFK's funeral).

You should try opening it and replacing the thermal paste, you have absolutely nothing to worry about, replace the thermal paste with something like IC diamong or arctic silver, there are online guides, with images on how to do it.

My PS3 died this week too! I had to reformat everything to get it working. Hold the power button untill it beeps twice and see if you can go into safe mode. Try 1,3,then 4. If none work format it and maybe it'll work.

Hmmm, PS3s dying all over the world just before GT5 releases. It's a conspiracy to sell more PS3s on the week GT5 comes out.

You could find yourself a nice GT5 bundle lulz...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

try getting into the factory mode

it could help

PRO TIP: When you're done playing a long session, you should never immediately turn off your PS3. You should go to the XMB and allow it to cool down. It is during this time that the PS3 isn't producing heat and it allows the fans to stay on. If you immediately turn it off, then that leaves the heat inside the PS3 with no fans to flush it out.

It's sort of like working out. You don't just go 100% and stop for the rest of the day. You have to do some light work to cool your body down.

Although it's probably too late for you. Sorry dude. LOL at the GT5 week comment.
