Forums - Gaming - What can companies do to lose fanboys (besides go under)?

I am a bit dismayed (though I guess not) that the push for motion control, and playing for casual players, hasn't driven fanboys away.  Despite their rants against motion-control originally (I guess because it was a Wii thing), the drive by Microsoft and Sony, has resulted in fanboys changing their mind about motion-control, using it as ammo, with sales numbers for their console of choice.

So, if waggle and wiggle don't deter fanboys from giving up their console of choice, and leaving videogames completely, what can?  A company going under and lose some, but that isn't healthy.  I know companies put up with fanboys, but also the excessiveness of their behavior has to cost sales somewhere.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sell them a 32X for 149?

You can't they are a downside of success. The only way to really lose fanboys is to become unsuccessful. Stalkers are a downside of fame, however if you want fewer stalkers you really have to become less famous as a movie/music/(insert other here) star.

There have always been fanboys but the internet has given them a voice and their fanboy nature has given them the motivation to be heard. On the other side there have always been trolls. Trolls and fanboys are like sparks and hydrogren baloons, when they meet you get flames.

So whilst it looks like theres a lot of chatter their numbers aren't actually that great. They make up for their number with the number of posts. In any case not all of the fanboy chatter is actually just fanboys. Trolls are attracted to fanboys like predators are to wounded animals. Fanboys are the easiest to provoke and they are the easiest to recognize as they regail themselves with their chosen companies colours.

Tease.

Fanboys could just ignore the wiggle and waggle. I have and I don't feel like any less of a gamer because of it.

To answer your question though, I was a Nintendo fanboy, I bought multiple Gamecube's, my Gameboy Colour was like a child to me and I would have sacrificed my mother if it guaranteed another Zelda game. Then the Wii released with all it's Wiggle and Waggle and I wasn't a Nintendo fanboy any more and I ignored the product. Motion controls turned me away.

I also think that most fanboys would disappear if every game had a separate online subscription. Instead of only paying $60 a year, you'd have to pay $5 a month per game.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Going under is noted to having an effect on fanboys.  The sheer defeat either has someone remain a well-tempered loyalist, who can't boast about a console (without being laughed at), or they move onto another console and be annoying there.  Proof on this?  If I end up doing, as I had before, a "Atari Jaguar rules all" thread on here to hype Tempest 2000 and a few of the good games on it, and try to talk trash, it definitely has a humor effect.   Even if I am an Atari loyalist now, I can't be a fanboy.

when did fanboys started to grow in size anyway? Was it when t the Star Trek / Star Wars movies first appeared? I think console fanboys are tolerable compare to the Apple vs PC ones  (just an example)

No you're wrong. Android vs iOS fanboys are the better example!

I've always been a fan of motion controls. I love the mouse on the PC.
