Forums - Sales Discussion - Aaron Greenburg "LOL's" at VGChartz KINECT Sales Report on his Twitter!!!

There is no way he would comment if the numbers were lower. ...

Actually that's not true. If the actual sales numbers are considerably lower then over time VGC will become significantly over tracked and once data other data does come out (shipments at least) if people have been following VGC data up until then it's gonna diminish the PR potentialities if reactions are..."Oh so they're lower than what VGC was reporting". Hence discredit overestmate data so that people forget about it and are suitably impressed when the hard data is reported.

Not saying that's the case here, I'm just saying you can't be absolutely certain that VGC is severely under-tracked, just because Greenberg, a spinmeister, lol'd on twitter.

On a more serious note; the fact that a major MS rep takes his time to even glance at our numbers is a huge testament to how relevant the site is becoming. It seems obvious that this place has really gained influence and credibility in the past year or so!

Sorry but i disagree. The guy to me seems like a raging egotistical douche. A bigtime Microsoft fanboy. I do not think he would talk about it at all if sales were not as good as reported. The way he words his comment is to look down upon vgc's numbers, laughing at them. It is very doubtful he would laugh about it if the numbers were over-tracked and the true numbers were actually lower. Add to that he is Mr MS PR man, how would that make him look by bringing attention to lower then expected sales of the new product they spent $500m advertising? Not good at all.

It seems to me his comments by some have been taken to imply that maybe sales of Kinect have not been so well. Which is actually the opposite to what most stores, analysts are saying. Most are saying it has done better then they expected. Some going so far as to say it is now the xmas must have thing. Best Buy today said they doubt they will have stock for xmas etc. The vibe of the whole thing to me does not suggest low sales. And in my opinion that is what his comments were really about.  As others have pointed out we will know the sales of the product at somepoint. If it has done bad they won't be able to hide the numbers forever.  But personally i don't think that is the case. I think he missed the bit where it said the numbers were for only 2-3 days of sales. Obviously there has been a whole week or so of sales since that period and naturally sales would have increased in that time. So the numbers could be right for the period they were taken from.

Ouch...that's a bit harsh, but that Greenie for ya.  It will be interesting to see what the totals are, but methinks Greenie be the last man standing here...the standalone bundles are sold out in most places I go to in my area, and somehow, I doubt M$ only shipped 300-400K units of them nationwide.  I think M$ is going to release numbers on Friday, for week 1, and it's probably going to have a tagline akin to sold out somewhere in there.

BTW, on a slam back to Greenie, WTF is he doing twitting from an Android phone, when WP7 launched on Monday...didn't they ALL get issued WP7 phones, like Dell did to their employees?

Ahahahaha my thoughts exactly!

Why haven't MS revealed numbers for Kinect yet?

Why would any company be obliged to tell people here  - or on any website - the number of gadgets they sell? Notice that Sony never commented on the Move numbers (which are way too low here, or no longer comments on NPD numbers which seems to piss off a lot of people here). Learn to live with it and hope the numbers given here are anywhere near the real numbers. I think MS/Sony/Nintendo have better things to do right now (or ever) than to correct numbers on websites.

Then why did he feel the need to comment?

Believe it or not, a lot of the gaming industry does use our data so if either our estimates are way too low (which I don't believe they are) or sales have been a little slower than he hoped - he'd have good reason to try to discredit the figures we published.

Either way, he obviously feels obliged to make a comment on it or else he wouldn't have bothered.

And he felt obligated enough to say it in a jackass way, his feathers are ruffled, I wonder if its the stock thats readily available on shelves and they can't go "we under-shipped".  Thing is he's already sealed his fate, 1 he's tweeted VGC all over the net anyone that follows him will see it and check out the site, 2 if/when final numbers are dead on then he's just provided VGC with a huge credibility boost and hurt his own cause he's the one that was unprofessional.

Thats sort of my thinking too. I see no reason whatsoever for him to even acknowledge these numbers unless theres a reason....ad trust me, if he tweets it in a rude way, theres a reason. If he were proud of the overselling hed allude to that, he had no problem tweeting about the 360's biggest november ever and CoD outselling PS3 X2 as he put it....he was vague on purpose and i have a hunch.....

Like i said, i dont think im in tin foil hat territory when i see NPD going to quarterly videogame numbers right before MSFT launches the most ambitious videogame product in recent memory, and Greenberg taking time to attempt to discredit the only independant source of sales figures without even actually commenting on the sales themselves when hes touted 360 sales via his twitter before.

I truly think VGC numbers are pretty accurate (and pretty damn impressive for Kinect) and Greenburg is simply prophylacticly attempting to discredit the last remaining source people have for numbers that they cant influence the release of data to the public. It sounds 1984ish but theres a reason why NPD went quarterly and the numbers arent public.

I have a question for the people who are calling him a Microsoft fanboy. How many of you know where he works? I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with Microsoft, and they just released a product whose name rhymes with Kinect. He isn't a fanboy. He is doing his job. There is a big difference.

As he tweets on his Android phone.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I KNEW it sold two million!  You all laughed at my prediction and called me crazy and laughed at my tiny penis!  Well who's laughing now?

He's with Verizon, though, and WP7 hasn't come to a Verizon phone yet.

How do I know that?  Twitter.  : )
