Forums - Sony - My PS3 died! >:L

Amazingly, after the lack of use and working fine for the year I've had it, it's screwed up! It just showed the backround and did nothing after many tries. I redid the hard drive and it still didn't work. I got a warranty so hopefully I can get a refund. It was only a year old too!

Man that really blows I've got a 40GB PS3 personally, I mean I bought my PS3 way after launch since Playstation consoles are notorious for having kinks at the launch, but to get one as late as you did and have issues is odd, usually they make a rock solid product when they start noticing reliability issues.

my ol' trusty 60G ps3 is still running fine, but I open it up and change the thermal paste and vacuum its inner once a year just to be safe.

Speaking of which... is that an easy process to perform? I ought to do the same...

its not too hard, just take your time and make sure don't mess up the screws after you remove them, there are plenty of guides around anyway, just look them up before you do it.

Yeah if your PS3 dies, you are pretty much screwed as far as your save data goes. If you put your old hard drive in a new system. The new PS3 will format it. You can back up your data but any locked saved games cannot be backed up.

Good for you and better yet for Sony. I never saw someone saying "my Wii is dead". The funny thing is the guys, after the tragic fact, will rush buy the same console. (sorry for my poor English and by the acid comment)
