that is what privacy settings are fore. If you don't use them tough.
From what I've been told, my place of employment has a dedicated group that does background checks. Their responsibilities include checking your credit, online behavior, criminal record, etc. Good thing nobody knows of my VGChartz identity of "d21lewis" or my porn site identity of "Proffessor Fist Her Butt". I'd be screwed! Plus, I got rid of my myspace after it caused me a lot of trouble and I'm not brave enought to create a Facebook account.
This threat is very real--and surprisingly legal.
Her boss was a douche, but she was too. She could have remained civil and right, leaving only her boss wrong, she chose instead to insult and be wrong too. IMVHO she should receive adequate compensation, because her boss started it, but there cannot be anymore mutual trust between her and her boss due to wrongs by both of them, so the firing shouldn't be nullified. Instead the very extreme alternative measure could be firing both her and her boss, they both behaved totally wrong.

d21lewis is actually spelled d12lewis. It's internet "l33t" speak!
I don't think a comment like that to another employee in private would be a reason to fire someone on its own ...
A comment like that published publicly on facebook is another thing altogether though. Effectively, you're slandering your boss and the company can not let you get away with this.
Well I don't have any co-workers on my facebook page and my page is set to private for a reason. One of my friends was working with a girl that got fired because she was saying bad things about her co-workers on her facebook page. Her page was set to private but one her "friends" from work showed her boss.

Voicing a complaint about work is okay. Calling your boss names publicly is not.

Just this name would be enought to get you fired...
"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"
"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."
(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)
"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"
