From what I've been told, my place of employment has a dedicated group that does background checks. Their responsibilities include checking your credit, online behavior, criminal record, etc. Good thing nobody knows of my VGChartz identity of "d21lewis" or my porn site identity of "Proffessor Fist Her Butt". I'd be screwed! Plus, I got rid of my myspace after it caused me a lot of trouble and I'm not brave enought to create a Facebook account.
This threat is very real--and surprisingly legal.
