The question is, how much Kinect and Kinect bundle did Microsoft ship? Sold out or not doesnt give us any kind of sales indication.

Those numbers are only useful if you know how many Kinect bundles and Kinect controllers they shipped in their first and second shipment. Obviously this is a hard launch because the supply seems to be holding up next to seemingly strong demand.
Tease.

He used were instead of where and fell in love with commas. Not that hard to comprehend.

It's useful in that we can tell the number of stand alones they were expecting to sell was met or exceeded while the number of 360's they were expecting to sell because of the kinnect was not reached.

Essentially, the bundles for people without X360 are in stock everywhere but Target, while the Kinect hw game bundles for existing X360 bundles are sold out everywhere but Game Stop. This sort of reflects my concern for Kinect this Christmas - the initial buyers will be the existing X360 audience primarily. The console bundles are certainly selling well if you look at the top-selling retailer products on their websites, but it doesn't seem like the demand is ahead of expectations in the way that the Kinect Game bundle demand is from the X360 audience. For Kinect to be a huge hardware pusher, it'd be easier the other way around - the sales to the base strong but not sellouts and the sales to everyone else above supply levels on strong word of mouth or something. What have you all heard anecdotally? Once COD week slows a bit I'm probably going to go over to some retailers and ask for some opinions on Kinect sales. |
This is pretty much what I've been encountering in several DC Metro area stores as well...the stand alone $149.99 bundles are sold out at most retailers I've checked out, which means current Xbox owners are snapping them up fast. I usually frequent 3 best buys and they are totally out, and more importantly, the games are gone as well, so I'm glad I picked up mine on launch day. I guess the $149.99 price point was spot on for M$, and methinks these will have some legs heading into the holiday season. As for the 360-Kinect bundles, I think they will be the sku of choice for those picking up a 360, and I think WOM and store displays are really going to push these things. I can’t tell you how many parents and kids I saw messing around with it, but time will tell, and it will be interesting to see what the first week tally will be. Anything under 300K will be a miss, imho, and 300-500 K is a pretty decent range for week one of it. Anything above that, and we might be looking at the runaway gadget for the season. With so many titles soldout though, I imagine it had to push A LOT of software…

What number of Kinect bundles were they expecting to sell? I saw nothing of the sort. I did see that Kinect standalones exceeded expectations however Kinect bundles I haven't seen a mention of anywhere.

The best selling 360 SKUs at Amazon are the 250 gig with Kinect and 4 gig with Kinect and those have been the best selling 360 SKUs for at least a month there so it is obvious that MS is picking up a ton of new owners because of Kinect.
There are stores starting to sell out of the Kinect Bundled 360s here and there. MS has a TON of 360s with Kinect bundled so it will take a while to sell through them all but it is going to happen. I expect it will be hard to find Kinect period, either the stand alone or 360s packaged with Kinect, after Black Friday.
I think that Kinect will actually do very well on its own but as far as pushing 360'S it won't be anything special. I am not at all saying that Kinect won't push any as I expect it to push a good amount just nothing outstanding...put it this way if the 360 was selling in last every week this year with only selling 75K a week Kinect wouldn't save it. The reason for this is that Kinect is as others have said $150. To a already 360 owner that isn't too bad but for a everyday casual thats a lot of money to be paying for an add on. Think about it...price means a lot and with a "recession" going on here in America right now $300 for a console with 1 game may sound like a lot.
Again, the sales of the $250 Wii showed that casuals are willing to pay money for a fun experience. Kinect is having no problems selling at $150.

kinect isn't 150$ for casuals. A casual would most likely need to buy a 360 and kinect which is almost double the price of a wii.
@people questioning how many of each bundle exists
It's fair to assume that there are far fewer 360 kinect bundles than there are straight kinect bundles. It can't be anywhere near close. I'd even be surprised of a 25/75 ratio of shipments.
