it depend where the industry goes next

if PS4is succesfull then no

if wii is succesfull then no

if 720 is succesful then yes

i think it will remain for 2 -3 years then go down

Wouldn't a successful Sony product equate to a continuation aswell?  Perhaps I'm misunderstanding 'hollywoodlization'.  Is it heavy cinema we are discussing?

its not heavy cinema.we aren't talking about cutscenes

how to explain this?

i got it

do you know how games were before in the earlier gens

they were just games

now that they have become a bit mainstream, you know how they are made and how published

like COD having a mega launch and spending $160m on MW2 marketing(which happens in hollywood for movies)

how games are COOL the thing to play and casuauls jus hop on

how there was 50 cent in MW2 and Jack Blcak in brutal legend

the hype and popular culture

that is what we are discusiing

Even if that is what we are talking about why do you think that the PS4 will bring an end to the trend? Do you expect that the PS4 to focus on Move or something? I mean SONY even published Heavy Rain and that has a bunch of actors etc attached and it and Uncharted is the games people use when talking about movie like games. Do you say it because games like COD, Fable and Gears are pushing actors etc and they are bigger on 360? Because COD is on PS3 as well and if the next xbox wasn't successful than games of that type would be on PS4.

The only thing that would stop the trend at this point would be if games like COD, Gears, Uncharted, Fable, Heavy Rain etc etc stopped selling and it doesn't look like that is going to happen at this point. Does that mean I think that they will be the only type of game? No and they probably won't even be the most popular type of game but they will be the most hyped by the press but gamers games will be made no matter what.

And does that mean that I think that the trend will continue forever? Well only time will tell but even if it becomes by far the majority of games it will pass like any other fashion...

And also the Wii is already a massive success and that hasn't done anything to stop the trend.

Hopefully it can be stopped. But before it will stop we need someone to find out some way of minimizing the cost of video game development as well as better defined schedules for game releases in order to allow developers to make more unique experiences and allow more games to become profitable.

So games should belong to gamers again.  Gotcha.

If development costs continue to be as high as they are you almost need those casuals, no matter how annoying some of them can be :p

YEAH KINDA off

casual gamers can be there but games should be games not blitzy and shiny hollywood movies type

targeted for gamers and if casuals like then they can get in

this was there with PS2 which had both casuals and hardcore but games were games

360 as a western brand brought in more western games which contributed to hollywoodization

Hopefully, Nintnedo will continue to sucessfully disrupt the hollywoodization of games.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Although I do enjoy cinematic games, they almost always suffer from the lack of replay value. We've seen a lot of them this gen, no doubt. But at the same time, I feel there've been enough arcade-ish games that even the balance out. At least, from what I've played.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

As Long as the Western Industry has us in choke hold, The answer is yes. That is why we most support Japan at all cost...

The collaspe of the industry is iminent we allow them to drive it.

It's not about cinematic games.  It's about half assed sure bets that the industry keeps on spitting at us, year after year, with barely an ounce of imagination or creativity.  The way every single product gets the streamlined and over-simplified treatment so the gullible morons of this world can understand everything in a few seconds without the need to ever really understand what the hell is going on.

Here's a visual example of what the Hollywoodification really is when applied to the gaming industry:

its been confirmed today that GT5 has a weather system, track editor and go karts! seriously i think this is going to be the best selling in the series even beating GT3 sales of 14 million plus!

Eh, that looks a lot more like FFXIII than any FPS I've been playing.  At the very least it should be "scripted event" instead of "cutscene".
