Forums - Gaming - The greatest coop game ever, we need more games like it!

We've all seen games built for coop, like Resident Evil 5, or traditional games where coop works well too, like the Halo games. But I've never played a game that is so dedicated to being a great coop experience as Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is. It's not two almost identical characters doing almost the same things, like in RE5, where the difference between the player characters is almost non-existant.

But in LCtGoL, you have two very distinct characters with unique abilities that work well on their own, but can be used in totally different ways by opposite character, which brings the interaction between the two players to a whole new level. You play as either Lara or Totec. Totec can throw spears, and Lara can climb onto those spears to reach higher ground. Lara has a grappling hook, and Totec can balance on the string or be tethered to Lara, so he or Lara can rapel down walls that couldn't normally be reached. And there are even more elements than that.

All of that wouldn't be for much if these elements weren't used well, but the game has lots of excellent usage for it all, both in exploring the environment and solving all the game's puzzles.

I really, really want to see where Crystal Dynamics take the game from here, because they something really great on their hands.

Does anyone know if there are any games that are sort of similar to it? I played through with my girlfriend, and I really want other games like it, because we both had a great time playing through this.

Try playing The Simpsons Game, too. You might be surprised.

Seriously? O_o

Have you ever tried co-op for any of the Splinter Cell games? I think you'd really like it.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

THIS GAME WAS AWESOME... i recommend it/have been recommending it to everyone

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light... It is awesome, and clever.
I did it with local co-op and we were having a blast. Because they're not to clones playing, its two people that have to work together.

There's other good games with co-op. But this one was the my favorite one all the way through

I think this is supposed to  be something to ease the way into tomb raider 9. But it is my favorite Crystal Dynamics one (technically lara croft). And I enjoyed Underworld and Legends. I hope they continue this type of series in the future... or better yet, make it as an extra to tomb raider 9.

You see, that's where the problem is.

I'd totally forgot about that, I've really wanted to play Conviction and Chaos Theory for a long time, but I'd completely forgotten about the coop! Thanks! :D

Seriously!  That game gave me similar feelings to what you are describing right now.  The co-op was great and the comedy very good, too.  If you cared about the Simpsons at any point in your life, I highly recommend  it.

Yeah that was a great co-op game, and as I'm now at uni, I wish there were more! I did buy Borderlands, but so far that hasn't required the same levels of working together as the Guardian of Light

I'm pretty sure Left 4 Dead has "best coop game" all wrapped up. Nothing artificial only one person or the other can do - but you *need* your friends to survive because they create scenarios that a single person simply can not get out of.

That said, when I bought and then played L4D2 - I was left feeling empty, like "I played this game already, and it was fantastic the first time - but this is the same game, just with more melee weapons".
