Prof don't start this "multiple levels of play" thing until we're more than NO NIGHTS AT ALL into the game.

Actually, while I'm on this point

I am diametrically opposed to first-day lynches. I do not think we should end the day before we've had plenty of good conversation, but I will throw this out to show my intentions for the first day:

Vote: No Lynch

"I will lynch anyone who meta-theorizes too much"

"Prof don't start this "multiple levels of play" thing until we're more than NO NIGHTS AT ALL into the game."

"NO LYNCH"

What're you trying to do there khuutie?

Asking you to not make me try to lynch you, and declaring (through vote) that I would rather not.

I am diametrically opposed to first-day lynches; it would take someone holdin me to my word to make me try for a hanging this early.

Also:

diametrically opposed to being called cootie

why, are you a germophobe?

Well, I've never actually lied in a game. But I have been misleading.

I'm a little surprised you can't see how a lie could affect mafia. Say, a doctor hinting at being a bomb, or hinting at being a vanilla townie, or I could even see how "playing straight" (just straight facts etc) can trick mafia into thinking they are a power role, etc etc. There is a lot more going on than just the words on the page.

While in the latter example, I could see confusion happening for the doctor, it is also the mafia who is looking for the power roles.

I'm failing to explain it properly.

I just know I'm right, and deception is part of the game.

Last game cell was supposed to eat the androids. Mafia immediately knew that vette was an android simply by his defense of androids being a pro-town role. Mafia read this stuff very carefully. Had someone else "lied" and "pretended" to be an android, mafia would've wasted their choice on the substitute.

That's the problem though: Only in very certain circumstances are pro-town lies acceptable. For example, like you said, the doctor saving their skin. But what about a townie lying about being a power role such as the tracker and getting someone lynched? All that does is lead to a mislynch. Lying is only beneficial when you won't get caught n it and there is no chance someone else might get lynched. Lies catching up to townies is, as I said, cataclysmic and could lead to mislynches.

Obviously that is neither a good lie, nor for the right reason. I'm thinking that you haven't thought about this much.

Right now, the only thing you're saying is "stupid lies are bad", and that's a really simple view of the game IMO.

Stupid be it as it may, I still stand beside my point: Lying is only helpful when a power-role is avoiding getting killed. Lies that confuse the mafia can confuse the town, and confusion is the town's worst enemy.

lol, i hear ya, bacteria is so misunderstood. I'd pick bacteria over disinfectant any day. Protecting against germs is something only obsessive americans care about.... I mean, some people need it (like my ex-roommate), but honestly... plus I love cheese.

Town is confused anyway!

A townie making stupid lies is fruitless. But lying is not bad for town. It doesn't hinder anymore than telling the truth. Think about it!!! Lying to get someone lynched is bad. Obviously.

I think you're just trying to make it look like you're pro-town.

Yeah, but the thing was that the list was right at the op, it sucked major time for us scum.

and yeah, it did destroyed the flow of the game.

talking about the sf game?.... it wasn't that bad... people roleclaimed only when suspected....but yeah, it's only because the town was fair play that there wasn't a mass name claim (i'd have chosen bodyguard instead of SK if that was the case :p "Evil" Ryu didn't quite sound townie ^^)

I don't see a lie, besides the doctor or another power-role saying he's a vanilla townie, that is beneficial to the town.

I'm not going to take up anymore posts explaining why it's more than just that one example. If you want to look at another point of view, there's always mafiawiki.

I don't want other townies discouraged by the number of posts they have to read. That is the real detriment to town.

I have my opinion, you have yours. :P
