stop trolling carl, the purpose of kinect is not to sell consoles, these are irrelevant

I disagree.  Kinect's purpose is to sell more consoles. Current Xbox 360 owners (going by online sites) would have been perfectly happy for MS to stick with what they were doing.  Now if the standalone units are selling out to the current core crowd then that just bodes well for the more casual audience as well.  I for one believe MS plans to use more of the manufactured Kinect's in bundles rather than standalone.  I would think 2 or 3 to 1.

Microsoft stated plenty of time that the sole purpose of kinect is to turn core gamers into casual gamers, so they don't have to make big expensive games anymore, and the fact that kinect is sold out but not the bundle prove that they are succeeding.

I'm calling bullshit on this post.  Where has Microsoft stated that they want to turn anyone into a casual gamer?  Maybe you could point out some articles or links where they stated this please?

On topic:

I agree that you can't go by online sales to point out how well something is selling to a certain degree.  However with the simple fact that MS has upped their goals and so many sites are sold out should go to show you that indeed it is selling well.  I don't see how anyone in their right mind would disagree.  Well other than being a fanboy and living in denial that is....

If you look on E-bay and Amazon you see tons of Kinect sensors for sale for a marked up price. Some pics on E-bay shows stacks of Kinect sensors which makes me wonder just how many are buying up Kinects just to sell them for marked up prices to make the shortage bigger than it really is.  I'm not saying that Kinect isn't selling but there seems to be more and more people buying up hot items just to resell them online.

How many are holding on to their Kniects waiting for the price to skyrocket. For once I wish they would get burned. Until the Kinect bundles start  to run out there is a limit of how high the stand alone can go. I would personal buy the bundle and get a second 360 for $300 than a stand alone for $200.

just posting to see where this thread goes, hope Kinect does well.

I've adoped a "wait and see" attitude with Kinect.

I'm gonna wait and see how it works with FPS.

well Amazon.com out of stock,again

is kinect regeion locked in any way knowing microsoft it probably is

Amazon.com has 4GB bundles and 250GB bundles currently in stock.

It's ocurred to me that there is probably a fair amount of "speculation" going on with independent vendors and individuals trying to cash in on the MS generated marketing hype.

The initial shipment numbers on the standalone sensors seem to be a bit low, which only helps hardware flippers.

The GS I visited in the downtown metro area of San Francisco had 30-40 pre-orders, many of which bought more than one on pick up. Why bother unless you were planning on selling one or giving it away; you only need one.

The game sales guys at Fry's in San Jose (huge electronics outlet) said they only received 12 standalone units in their initial shipment. They had the 4GB bundle in stock as of yesterday.

I'm seeing Kinect bundles everywhere, both online and at retail, which leads me to believe that MS simply didn't ship enough standalone units in the initial shipment.

But I'll just do what any level-headed person would do and wait for next week's numbers on both Kinect game sales and the inevitable hardware bump.

It will be a simple matter of subtracting the weekly hardware increase from the overall number of Kinect Adventures units sold to estimate how many standalone sensors were available (and sold) through retail.
