If we want a system that's just as capable as everything else, but priced $1000 more, then yea, I'd like Apple in the gaming industry

You already have Nintendo for that and Apple margins are no worse than Nintendo.

Dude Nintendo does not over price its products, they are always affordable. I remember getting a crappy I-Book back in the day. The thing had to be fixed like 3 times. Apparently its insides were made with aluminum and the frame kept on getting bent out of shape. My whole school adopted I-Books but after all the repairs and set backs they switched to Acer's and never looked back.

I have yet to have a Nintendo console fail on me, their products are always affordable and of the highest quality. The only Apple product I ever owned (I-Book) broke 3 times in a year, and all I did was put it in the laptop bag I wasn't rough with it or anything.

Damn.. that sucks for you cause Apple came on top for the seventh straight year in the The American Customer Satisfaction Index.. 86 out of 100 this year..

I'm not denying people love their I-Pods, Pads, phones and touches. Just the products aren't worth the price you pay for them. I can get a steel enforced Acer for like 500$ while a flimsy I-Book goes for like 1500$. Also with all the third party support (Apps/Music...etc...etc...) it does definatly give Apple an edge.

No, the less consoles the better.

Not really I don't really see what they'd bring to the industry, they have no first party and unless they have some new method of  control then  it'll just be like what we already have

Alright with the recent rumours about Apple looking to break into the industry with an aquisition of EA or Sony, this begs the question. Do we as gamers really want Apple to break into the industry, do we really want a fourth competitor? What can Apple add to the industry that would make it appealing to us gamers?

Do you want to see Apple join the console wars with their own console, or do you want them to just leave our industry the hell alone?

looking to break into the industry

Fucking lol, they have broken into the industry. Their console has/is

1) Outselling the DS and PSP put together, infact, sales of iphone/ipod/ipad aprobably come close to rivaling all 5 of the other 7th gen console put together.

At first glance, this claim seems outrageous. Then I checked the numbers:

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 04th Jul 2010 to 02nd Oct 2010:

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS
Total
2,032,240
2,331,422
2,687,087
1,545,058
3,705,137

Total game consoles sold in Q3: 12,300,944

Apple's unit shipments in the same period:

iPhone: 14.1 million

iPad: 4.2 million

iPod Touch: Estimated to be roughly 60% of 9.1 million iPods sold, or 5.5 million units.

I don't think "rivaling" is the right word for this comparison. In terms of hardware, Apple is almost twice the size of the entire console industry.

A lot of people have stories like this. I don't think that you're unique. I have had PS2s break down, a Wii break down, Xbox 360 drives breaking down twice, PS3 breaking down etc. I don't hate on any of these companies for their hardware kicking the bucket.

Whilst the Nintendo products are always affordable, the margins they have on those products are similar if not greater than many Apple products. Nintendo has massive profit margins and so do Apple and they all come from the higher margins and good sales of their products.

Tease.

Apple is the ultimate presentation over content company. I like content and do not want Apple involved in gaming in any way. In fact, I don't want Apple involved in anything and hope they go bankrupt before Christmas even though that does look slighty unlikely at the moment.

Why not?

It could spice things up! Although I'd never buy their console.
